Message
from the President
Desert Document Services Celebrates 20 Years!
|
| This
month DesertDocs proudly celebrates 20 years
of providing document solutions to the mortgage
industry. I want to personally thank all of
our customers for being an integral part of
our growth and success. As
I sat down to compose this message, I started
down the path to talk about all the technology
developments we’ve made over the years.
From the first fax doc orders in the early
80’s, then our first remote document
delivery in 1987, to our 90’s delivery
of desktop software up to when we provided
the capability of working anywhere, anytime
through DesertDocs Web and BrokerDocs.com
in 2000. We’ve really seen big changes
in our industry.
While
technology is very important, the true value
is the relationship we have formed by becoming
an extension of your mortgage team. While
we have shared in your business growth,
we have become true friends and partners
that share life events together. As a part
of your team we take pride in knowing that
we support your efforts in helping your
customers with one of the biggest life events-
buying a home or refinancing to live comfortably
in that home.
The
future is very bright for Desert Document
Services. While we are committed to the
advancing technologies and the changing
work place innovations, we are also very
committed to helping your business continue
growing profitably. We will be here for
you when you are ready to deploy new technologies
such as SMART Docs and e-signatures. As
well, we will continue to look for the best
ways to service your individual needs.
I
want to thank you for your loyalty and welcome
the newly arrived with the commitment to
your long-term success. We look forward
to serving you for many years to come.

New
Feature:
Services Option |
Desert
Document Services is proud to announce a
new feature within the latest update release
to BrokerDocs and DesertDocs Web. You now
have the ability to order related document
services when you order docs for a loan.
The steps are very simple, once a loan has
successfully passed audit, an originator
is able to order a closing doc package and
then check any available service to be ordered
at the same time. The administrator for
an originator will be able to restrict or
permit which services can be ordered for
an audited file. The first service available
through BrokerDocs and DesertDocs Web is
The Turning Point. Learn more about The
Turning Point in our What’s New section.
If you have questions regarding our Services
Option feature, please call us at 800-726-9898.
If you have a service that you would like
to see added to the DesertDocs offerings,
please call or send us your recommendation
to services@desertdocs.com. |

New |
The
Turning Point Services
Through the new Services feature in BrokerDocs
and DesertDocs Web, an originator can chose
to use The Turning Point Services. This service
provides a wide variety of customizable follow-up
communication materials including closing
gifts, greeting cards, new product announcements,
customer questionnaires and borrower amortization
schedules. All are highly personalized, including
the originator’s signature and photograph.
To initiate this service for any loan, simply
click on the Service option when ordering
docs and you’ll be contacted directly
by The Turning Point for setup and registration.
TeamMate
Collaboration
Desert Document Services now provides its
customers the ability to manage and distribute
work amongst their staff during peaks in
their business volumes. TeamMate Collaboration
is simple and easy to use. By pre-assigning
individuals to TeamMate groups, a customer
can assign work to someone in different
teams, branches, even office locations.
Work can be allocated by groups of loans
or package-by-package. It is completely
controlled by the assigned administrator
or manager.
IndyMac

IndyMac Bank has teamed with DesertDocs
to provide document solutions for their
new Home Construction Lending Correspondent

| Compliance
Corner |
| Did
you know the mandatory compliance date for
the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC)
Gramm-Leach-Bliley (G-L-B) Security Program
is May 23, 2003? Are you ready? What do
the words “Gramm-Leach-Bliley”
and “federal privacy law” mean
to businesses in the mortgage industry?
Plenty.
First,
G-L-B’s definition of a “financial
institution” is so broad that almost
every business in the mortgage industry
falls under the scope of this law and it’s
regulations.
Second,
if your mortgage related business is not
regulated by a federal agency, then the
FTC’s G-L-B regulations probably apply
to your mortgage related business. See www.ftc.gov
and www.ftc.gov/privacy/glbact/glb-faq.htm.
In fact, the FTC recently issued an Additional
FAQ just for Mortgage Brokers. See www.ftc.gov/privacy/glbact/glb-faq-more.htm.
Third,
if your mortgage related business falls
under the scope of G-L-B, then you may need
to draft a Financial Privacy Notice to provide
to your customers/consumers. For more information
on this topic, see http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/getnoticed.pdf
Finally,
if your mortgage related business falls
under the scope of G-L-B, then you may need
to develop an Information Security Program.
For more information on this topic see www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/safeguards.pdf
DesertDocs
is not a law firm and does not provide legal
advice to its customers. Therefore, as with
all-important information, please confirm
its applicability to your business with
your legal counsel.
