| During difficult economic times, companies search for ways to
cut costs to remain highly competitive in the marketplace. In recent
months, many companies have chosen reduction in their workforce as a
primary cost-cutting measure. As a result, companies are pushing
their remaining employees to do more with less, making remaining
employees more valuable. Employee turnover is an expensive
proposition for any company. Processing the separation, hiring a
replacement, training the new employee, and loss of productivity all
negatively affect the bottom line. To preserve their most important
asset-human capital-companies must provide their remaining employees
with the tools and resources needed for them to stay motivated, stay
productive, and stay put.
