JOHN L.
LOUGHLIN, 73, of Angell Road, an award-winning artist and former
art director, died Sunday at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.
He was the
husband of Elsa (Farinelli) Loughlin; they had been married
for 50 years. Born in Worcester, Mass., a son of the late John
J. and Margaret (Ford) Loughlin, he had lived in Lincoln for
40 years.
He was a
graduate of the Worcester Museum and Clark University.
Mr. Loughlin
had been an art director at the Naval War College, in Newport,
and WSBE-TV Channel 36, Providence, before he retired in 1988.
He had received
many awards for his oil paintings, watercolors and black-and-white
drawings. He was a member of the Boston Guild of Artists, the
Providence Art Club, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, the
Water Color Society of New York, the Newport Art Museum, the
Rockport (Mass.) Art Association and the Spring Bull Gallery
of Newport.
He was an
Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Loughlin
was a communicant of St. Jude Church.
Besides
his wife, he leaves a daughter, Suzanne Stephenson of North
Stonington, Conn.; a son, John J. Loughlin of Tiverton; three
brothers, William Loughlin of Sarasota, Fla., Raymond Loughlin
of Worcester and Paul Loughlin of Sutton, Mass.; two grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
