Velkommen (welcome) to Elveby Lodge, Sons of Norway!
We think you'd be hard-pressed to find an organization which enjoys its
cultural heritage more, plus bringing benefits to its community. While Sons of
Norway has been around for more than 100 years (see Sons of Norway Overview),
Elveby Lodge is working on its 2nd decade of history in the Omaha area.
We gather to learn, have fun, serve our community and fellowship at an average
of 3-5 times each month; something of interest for just about anyone!
Check out our Calendar of Events for a
summary of events.

Our lodge
normally holds its social meeting at 6:30p.m. on the 3rd Monday of each month
at the Scandinavian American Society building. Our social meetings always
include a special program, fellowship activities and snacks or a potluck. We
have a separate business meeting on the 4th Monday to organize activities and
to conduct general lodge business (and enjoy more snacks, of course!).
Our lodge was formed in 1988 with over 400 charter
members. Our present membership ages range from mid-20's to 80+ years of age
with heritage (teenage) and youth members also.
A typical calendar year for Elveby members would
include over 30 opportunities for fun, fellowship and Norwegian cultural
activities. Programs normally include:
Heritage / Cultural - Norwegian Ethnic Festival, native costumes, Norwegian
Independence Day celebration (syttende mai), dancing, trips, genealogy,
language lessons, history, Mid-Summer Festival, geography, holiday customs, and
more.
Social - bus
trips to other festivals, visiting Norwegians, picnics, ethnic foods, cooking
classes and book reviews.
Special -
Annual Torsk/Meatball Dinner, music concerts, inter-lodge events with other
Lodges, District and International Lodge events, travelogues, parades, lectures,
Scandinavian events, etc.
Information -
an outstanding (many think the best) local lodge newsletter every month plus
the international Viking magazine (also monthly).
All local activities are coordinated, carried out and
enjoyed by volunteers. New friendships are continuously forming and building!
What we do is share and learn a lot about our Norwegian heritage and culture,
enjoy excellent (optional !) insurance rates and have a lot of fun!
Elveby Lodge even has an official poem which
summarizes its personality. Enjoy it!
Norwegian Table Prayer
i jesu navn går vi til bords
å spise, å drikke på ditt ord.
deg gud til ære, oss til gavn
så får vi mat i jesu navn.
Amen
(In Jesus' name we go to the table
To eat and drink at thy word.
To thy honor and for our benefit
We receive our food in Jesus' name.
Amen)
