LaResa Turnbow

La
Resa Turnbow is of Cheyenne and Cherokee heritage and was one of the 4
people who formed the "first" American Indian Organization in Southern Texas. She discovered her talent
one day when her son asked her to draw an Indian and a horse for his birthday. She had never attempted to draw
anything but, her son was one that never asked for anything so, she felt she had to try and grant his wish. She
prayed to the Great Spirit as she worked on this gift for her son. And, as if someone was guiding her hand, she
produced her first piece of artwork entitled "Moriah."
This single painting launched Ms. Turnbow's career as an artist and introduced a bright and shining new talent to
the world.
Ms. Turnbow has been very active in the preservation of
American Indian Heritage and her art has been shown in various Native American Exhibitions, including the Heritage Park
in Corpus Christi, Texas.
