First of all I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for having faith in me and giving me the opportunity to serve as your Commodore for the next year. Lynne and I are really looking forward to the experience. I am really excited, because we are starting to see a number of improvements at the club. I am sure by now you have all noticed the new carpet and fresh paint in the dining room. We also just received a new air conditioner/heating unit for the dining room and new patio furniture for the deck. With your help, we are going to continue to make improvements to the club over the coming year. The board has just finished putting together a project list of things that need to be done around the club. With boating and diving season slowing down for a couple of months, hopefully we will be able to get a number of those projects accomplished. Keith Dodson will be setting up a couple of work days soon. I encourage everyone who is able to come out and help.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As the Christmas season approaches, I ask that you take a few minutes to remember our comrades who are deployed and in harms way. Thanks to them and those that went before them, we remain free to celebrate the holiday season in any way we see fit.
I want to make one last pitch for the New Years Bash. It was a great party last year, and this year promises to be even better. If you haven’t already made your reservation by the time you receive this, you have already missed the early bird special price, so it is going to cost you $24 a person. A full dinner buffet will be served around 8PM, we will have entertainment thru midnight by Rick Henson, free specialty drinks, champagne, wine, a great breakfast New Years Day, and a reserved boat slip (while available). We can also make you a reservation at the VOQ for an additional cost. All reservations must be accompanied with full payment to Gary Combs at (850) 217-5180 or email him at gary.combs@cox.net. If you pay by check, please make the check out to Gary Combs, not the club.
I have just finished putting together the calendar for next year and am including a copy in the Sea Notes. If you want to add an activity during the year, just let me know and we can get it on the calendar. Pat Seip, our new Boating Activities Director, will be looking for ideas for some cruises this year. So, if you have a good idea and would like to help her out with a cruise, please get in contact with her.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a very Happy New Year. I look forward to seeing you at the club and on the water soon

THE
GRAPEVINE By Joan Faris |

Since our Sea Notes were last published we did have some of our members hospitalized. (Some were scheduled and others unscheduled.) Thankfully, Frank Valade’s seventh back surgery was successful and Frank is doing really well. Betty Sigman suffered a broken wrist that required surgery to repair. Hopefully her recovery will be speedy. Ben Busbee had unexpected surgery to clear a carotid artery blockage and is doing well. Finally Connie Inman, our EYC secretary, had to spend time in the University of Alabama Hospital for a tune up but is home and was able to take minutes at this months board meeting.
As usual our members did their best to keep the travel industry growing. Bob and Karen Gramm spent a week in Coco Beach wind surfing and hanging out at Ron Jon’s. Troy and Kay Dent traveled to Delray Beach with Kay’s brother and his wife just in time to greet hurricane Wilma. I’ll bet there are some good stories from that trip. My sister Jean and I went to Fort Lauderdale for a week and got to tour some fabulous boats then high-tailed it out of there just before hurricane Wilma blew ashore. Finally, Dave Vachon leaves to tour Argentina as this issue goes to press. We look forward to hearing all about his adventures when he returns.
As always we still need volunteers to run or help at our Family and Membership Nights dinners. Signing up is easy and they really are fun to put on. So if you haven’t volunteered lately please do so.
Remember, when you hear about any of our members who need a little cheer or deserve recognition PLEASE call or e-mail me and I will take it from there. Contact me by phone at 678-5834 or e-mail joanfaris@aol.com.
See you at the club.

Now that fuel is available again, EYC boaters were able to get back on the water in November, even if it was only a short cruise. We had nine boats brave the unusually high winds for a weekend raft-up in the Destin Harbor. A good time was had by all. A special thanks goes out to Dave Vachon for having everyone on his boat for the Saturday night Happy Hour. (This turned into several hours!!) Everyone contributed some great food and some very entertaining stories.
Details aren’t final yet, but we are working on making the Baytown Lighted Boat Parade on December 10 our December cruise. I encourage everyone to hang some Christmas Lights on your boat and join us at Baytown for an evening of fun. The folks at Baytown always treat us great and the party after the parade is a lot of fun. Watch your e-mail for more details. There are also two other Lighted Boat Parades you might be interested in. The Ft. Walton Beach Parade is December 3, and the Destin Lighted Boat Parade is scheduled for December 12. If you are interested in participating in either of those, give Tom Graves a call and he can give you the details.
I am looking forward to a great boating year this coming year. Hopefully the weather will cooperate a little more than it did last year. If you have any ideas for a fun cruise, please contact Pat Siep. We are always looking for new cruise ideas.
I hope everyone has a great holiday season and I look forward to seeing you on the water.
See you on the water soon!
Dive Activities News
By Keith Dodson
With the dive
season winding down for the year, we should look back upon the exciting
adventures that we were able to enjoy under the water this past year. For those
who were able to experience a few previous dives in between Mother Nature’s
artistic redesign of the surrounding waters, look upon them with fond memories
and if you are able, share those memories with others who may not be as
fortunate as we are. We should all be thankful for the blessings of living in
such a great nation and a beautiful location as Florida where we can enjoy the
lifestyles that we do.
On behalf of the
Dive flight, I would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy Holiday!

|
By The Galley Gourmet
HOLIDAY EGGNOG CUSTARD PIE
Filling:
½ cup sugar
2 ½ cups of eggnog
4 eggs
Nutmeg
Crust: Use prepared crust or make your own.
Heat oven to 425. Place crust in 9inch pie pan and do not prick. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove crust and reduce oven temperature to 350.
In a large bowl combine sugar, eggnog and eggs; blend well. Pour into partially baked crust and sprinkle with nutmeg.
Bake at 350 for 30 or 40 minutes or until almost set. (Center of filling will be soft.) Cool 2 hours and store in refrigerator.
TIP: Cover edge of crust with strips of foil after 15 to 20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning.
