 From the Bridge

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Years Holidays.   Our club holiday celebrations were great fun and as always there was no shortage of good food and spirited camaraderie. Thanks to everyone who helped decorate the club for the holidays, it looked beautiful.  Our club New Year’s Eve party was spectacular.  I think those of you who attended will agree it was the best we have ever had.  Who would have thought we had such a talented Kazoo Band.  I want to thank John Faris and Gary Combs for all the help they gave me in making this such a fun event.  We are already planning to repeat the fun next year and hope to make the event even bigger and better.  If you have any ideas on improving the New Years Celebration, please let me know.

As the days begin to get longer I eagerly look forward to the many events scheduled for this spring.  The 2004 Calendar of Events is posted on our web site and there are several copies available at the club.  Please take a moment to download it or pick up a copy.  I have also asked Jan to put the upcoming events in the SeaNotes.  In an attempt to maximize participation we have scheduled several afternoon/evening events that originate and return to the club.  All you have to do is contact the event POC to participate – see Boating Notes for more detail.  We will do our best to keep the calendar current so everyone can see what is going on.   Keep checking the calendar during the year for changes.

In the near term the board and bridge will be looking into sprucing up the inside of the club.  Keith Dodson will be putting together a club improvement plan and putting together a work day soon.  Watch your e-mail for an announcement of the next work day.  With money as tight as it is these days, probably the only improvements we are going to see at the club are the ones we do ourselves.

My job has kept me on the road almost continually for the last few months, so I haven’t been able to spend as much time at the club as I would like.  Hopefully all this travel will end in the next couple of months and I can get back to club business.  Thanks to Gary Combs and the rest of the board for picking up the slack while I am on the road.

I thank you for your continued support and inputs. Please feel free to call or email me at any time.

I look forward to seeing everyone on the water soon.

THE GRAPEVINE

By Joan Faris

Sadly the only thing to report since our last Sea Notes is the passing of Anne Waugh.  Ann passed away at home on 1 January 2007 with Jim by her side.  She was a good and dear friend to everyone who knew her and long time Eglin Yacht Club supporter.  Her family held a memorial service for her at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, on Friday, 12 January.  As you would expect, Anne’s wishes were that donation be made to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.  She was truly a caring person in all she did and will be sorely missed.  In this great time of sorrow, please continue to keep Anne, Jim, and their family in your prayers.

Don’t forget our next Family Night is Friday, February 2nd!!!  We still need volunteers to host several Family and Membership Nights.  Now is your chance to sign up for one of the choice months that are still open.

Remember when you hear about any of our members who need a little cheer or deserve recognition, PLEASE call or email me and I will take it from there.  Contact me by phone at 678-5834 or email me at joanfaris@aol.com.

See you at the club.

Boating Activities
by Pat Siep

It’s time to start a new year of boating.  The boaters got together and decided on the cruises for the coming year.  That does not mean that they were carved in stone.  We can be flexible.  Our first Cruise is February 17th to the Crab Shack.  Membership night is the day before so bring your boats to the club and on Saturday we will load boats up with people that want to go the Crab Shack.  We will eat at 6PM and I will need boat reservations and people reservations as soon as possible.  Call me at 243-5860 or e-mail me at patrays1@cox.net  .Happy boating!

See you on the water soon!

What’s Cooking at EYC?

By The Galley Gourmet

Warm Bacon Cheese Spread

1 round loaf (1pound) sourdough bread
1 package (8oz.) cream cheese, softened
1 ½ cups (12oz.) sour cream
2 cups (8oz.) shredded cheddar cheese
1 ½ tsps. Worcestershire sauce
¾ lb. sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
½ cup chopped green onions
Assorted Crackers

Cut the top fourth off the loaf of bread; carefully hollow out the bottom, leaving a 1 inch shell.  Cut the removed bread and top of loaf into cubes; set aside.

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese.  Add the sour cream, cheddar cheese and Worcestershire sauce until combined; stir in bacon and onions.  Spoon into bread shell.  Wrap in a piece of heavy-duty foil.  Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour or until heated through.  Serve with crackers and reserved bread cubes.

**This would make a great addition to a Super Bowl party!
