Band Class

This part is based on a student's:

  • overall musicianship (set-up, warm-up, conduct, participation, etc.)
  • knowledge of music (style, form, technical accuracy, etc.)
  • playing tests (live tests assigned and performed during class)
  • preparation for class (having your instrument, music, pencil, etc)

Performances		 Performance Attendance
If you can not attend a performance, a written note signed by a parent or guardian must be presented to the band director prior to the performance.

MidTerm/Final		 Students must complete three of the following six choices for both mid-term and final exams:

1) Written exam (1 point). The exam will cover elements of music theory, history, notation, and vocabulary, as discussed during band class throughout the semester.

2) Take private lessons (2 points - lessons on band instrument during current semester). Student must pass in the name and phone number of their private teacher to band director for confirmation.

3) Take private lessons (1 point - lessons on non-band instrument during current semester). Student must pass in the name and phone number of their private teacher to band director for confirmation.

4) Attend a performance (1 point) of a concert band, an orchestra, or other musical performance. The performance must be of high school level or above. Students must pass in a program from the event and a one page review. No Lincoln High School performances will qualify.

5) Make an audio cassette tape recording (1 point). The student chooses a solo or ensemble appropriate to their playing level with the help and approval of the band director and makes a cassette recording.

6) All-State/ Solo & Ensemble (1 point). Participation in All-State auditions (for mid-term) / Participation in Solo/Ensemble Festival (for final)

7) Vacation Practice (1 point). If you attended the practice over Christmas vacation.
