Our Driver: Name: Joe Farré Occupation: Owner - Sigma Engineering Solutions, Inc. - Las Vegas Nevada Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (Cum Laude), Registered Professional Engineer in five US states, ASCE Southern Nevada Engineer of the Year 2004. Racing Experience: 18 years of Dirt Track and Asphalt Racing experience Series Participation: IMCA Modifieds 1990 through 2003 ASA Speed Truck Challenge 2004 2005 SRL Late Model Touring Series - 2006-2008 History: The Early Years - Joe started his racing career in 1990 by participating in the newly formed IMCA modified division at King's Speedway located in Hanford, California. Joe had recently graduated from college and his father suggested that they start a new chapter in the Farré Racing history books. Joe's father, Carlos Farré, started racing in the early 1960's in the $99 claimer division at Petaluma speedway located in Northern California. Carlos was an avid fan of older cars and had tinkered with cars from the time he was twelve years old. Carlos' interest in cars went well beyond the 60's, and in 1990 when he was the Catalyst of what would become Farré Racing. IMCA, the Central Valley and Northern California- Joe's father lived in the little town of Coalinga, California, a small oil mining community located approximately 60 miles southwest of Fresno. At the time, Carlos suggested that they start racing at Kings Speedway, a 3/8 miles dirt track located in Hanford, California. Joe honed his dirt track skills quickly, and within a couple of years he was a front runner at the local track. After taking a job with the California Department of Transportation as a bridge design engineer, Joe moved to the Sacramento area. Joe suggested that the team move its operations to Northern California to minimize travel and to concentrate on more tracks throughout California. In 1993 the team began running at Placerville Speedway, a small 1/4 mile dirt track just outside of Sacramento California. Joe's dirt skills had been well honed, and again Joe found himself a local favorite amongst the fans. With more than 20 heat race wins, several top two finishes, and 4 consecutives wins on the small track, Joe was on his way. Unfortunately, the track dropped the IMCA division in 1996 and Joe had to decide to move on. Pavement Modifieds - In 1996 Farré racing decided to venture beyond dirt and ran several races at the Altamont Speedway 1/2 mile paved track. The speeds were fast, and so was the pace. Farré racing had built a new car in 1996 and campaigned the new car at Altamont speedway. In 1997, a third "pavement" car was under construction and the pavement experience continued. However, in May of 1997 Farré Racing lost its most valuable member unexpectedly. Carlos Farré passed away leaving a giant void in the soul of the team. In his spirit the team pushed on. In 1998 the team finished the pavement car and ran some of the fastest pavement laps right out of the box with the new car. 1998 proved to be challenging with a devastating wreck that totaled the new pavement car only six races into the new season. On to Vegas - Looking for some change, Joe moved to Las Vegas in 1998. It was back to dirt track modified racing, and Joe proved his knowledge on the super-fast Las Vegas 1/2 mile dirt track. Finishing 4th in the field in his first year in Las Vegas. Joe ran the 1/2 mile dirt track until it was eventually closed in 2001. Modified Touring- With no home track, Joe took the tour on the road and raced throughout the western US states hitting local dirt tracks from El Centro California, to Phoenix, Arizona. For two years Joe toured with his modified looking some exciting action on the fast and furious western dirt tracks. Speed Trucks, A whole New Era: In 2004 Joe ran across the Speed Truck Challenge, a sportsman truck touring series that caught his attention. With little pavement experience, Joe thought this would be a great new challenge for his racing career. Competing in 16 events in the 2004 season, Joe was able to capture a top ten finishing position in the expanding truck series. With over 45 competitors, it was a challenge for a newly formed pavement team to run with more seasoned veterans of the paved oval. With some luck, a lot of hard work and support from some key individuals, the Farré Racing team left their mark in only their first season of sportsman truck racing. Southwest Tour/SRL- A whole a new era - Farré Racing acquired a Southwest Tour car, and has succssfully competed in the SRL Southwest tour series for two years. With several top 10 finishes in just their first two years of competition the team has a proven track record for performance both on, and off, the track. So look out fans... it's off to the SRL Southwest tour in 2008 for the Farré Racing team. We look forward to seeing our fans in the stands, and running some hot laps on some of the fastest tracks in the west |
