She was born Abt. 1837 in Maine (Source: (1) 1850 United States Census, Page 186, Line 20., (2) 1860 United States Census, 13 June 1860 for Monroe, Waldo, Maine, page 8, line 24; age cited as 22., (3) 1870 United States Census, 19 July 1870 for Monroe, Waldo, Maine., (4) 1880 United States Census, 23-24 June 1880 for Monroe, Waldo, Maine.).
Notes for ISAAC JORDAN, JR.:
In the 13 June 1860 census for Monroe, Waldo, Maine, his property is valued at $700 for real estate and $250 for personal estate. Some of these funds were left to his family in his will when he joined the volunteers in the Civil War. He was reported by the family to have fought at Gettysburg, but this is not true.
According to p. 126 of Vital Records of Monroe Maine, he was taken prisoner in June 1864 and "it is no doubt he was Starved to death at Andersonville [Prison Camp in Georgia] in Jany. 1865."
From the 1863 Maine Adjutant General's Report, 4th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company "F," listed under "Privates:" Jordan, Isaac, 32, Monroe, Married, [enrolled into U.S. Service] August 12, 1862 at Brooks, Maine. Mustered into service as a private on the 28th day of September 1862 at Augusta. [Taken] prisoner May 2, [1863]; exchanged. Company F was commanded by George G. Davis.
It is unclear when he was exchanged, if he was taken prisoner May 2, 1863. According to the history of the unit, he would have been in the following campaigns: His unit arrived at Harrison’s Landing on the 2d of July, and there encamped until the 16th of Aug., when they were transported to Alexandria and arrived at Centreville just as the army had commenced falling back from the battle-field of Groveton or Second Bull Run, where General Pope’s forces had been defeated. Next was a retreat from the Peninsula and movement to Centreville August 16-27. Pope's Campaign in Northern Virginia was August 27-September 2. Battles of Groveton August 29: Bull Run August 30; Chantilly September 1. On the 1st of Sept., they commenced the retreat toward Washington, and on the 11th had a skirmish with the enemy at the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain. They then guarded fords from Monocacy River to Conrad's Ferry until October 11. Next followed a march to Leesburg, thence to Falmouth, Va., October 11-November 23. Following that came the Mouth of Monocacy, White's Ford, October 12 and the Battle of Fredericksburg, Va., December 12-15. The "Mud March" was January 20-24, 1863 wherein they re-crossed the Rappahannock and encamped near Bell Plains, where they remained until Feb. 2d, 1863. Then the regiment was assigned to the "Light Division" and moved to Potomac Creek, where it encamped and remained until April 28th. The Chancellorsville Campaign was April 27-May 6. On the 1st of May, they crossed the Rappahannock River and bore an honorable part in the battle of Chancellorsville on May 2d and 3d, their loss being 128 officers and men in killed and wounded. It is likely, then, that he was captured at the battle of Chancellorsville, which means he missed the battle of Gettysburg (July 1-3) by a matter of a few weeks!
At the end of his enlistment with the 4th Maine, after having been a prisoner exchanged, he volunteered to remain in service and was transferred to the 19th Maine with the rest of those who stayed. He is mentioned in the book, A History of the Fourth Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment. According to their records, he was captured on June 23, 1864, nine days after joining the regiment.
His official military records, received from the Veterans Records, United States National Archives and Records Administration, (Textual Reference Branch), Form A205927 dated 2/17/1999, Memorandum from Prisoner of War Records, list his information as follows:
"Captured at Petersburg Va., June 22, 1864. Confined at Richmond, Va., June 25, 1964. Lynchburg Va. June 29/64. c???fd Andersonville Ga - seuh (succumbed?) to illness Oct 31. Admitted to Hospital at Andersonville Ga Jan 4 - 65 where he died Feb 6, 1865, of Rheumatism #16476 Grave 12.602"
Andersonville, Georgia Prison Camp
His pension records indicate he was "transferred from Company F in the 4th Maine Regiment to Company B of the 19th Regiment of Maine Volunteers on or about the 15th day of June A.D. 1864."
According to Sanford B. Sylvester of Belfast, Maine, a witness to the Pension Records request of Isaac's widow, Sarah: ""Isaac Jordan, Jr. was taken prisoner at the same time I was near Petersburg in the State of Virginia on the twenty second day of June A.D. 1864. We were both taken to Petersburg then to Richmond then immediately to Andersonville in the State of Georgia. Said Isaac Jordan, Jr. was with me until about the tenth day of March [1865] when he was taken out of the stockade by reason of sickness. He was not able to stand or help himself at all when he was taken out and I was informed by an acquaintance of mine who was detailed to take care of those in the hospital that he died about a week after he left or was taken from the stockade. I have no means of giving the exact date of his death but think that he died about the 18th or 19th day of March 1865."
William Shaw, of Belfast, Maine, wrote the following account as a witness to the Pension Application: "While I was at Andersonville Prison aforesaid I became acquainted with Isaac Jordan of Monroe, Maine who was also a prisoner. He came to the prison sometime after I was there. I should think sometime in July or August A.D. 1864. I was frequently in company with said Isaac Jordan until I was taken sick [and] lame with (illegible) scurvy. When I was not able to move about for several months during the time I was sick and lame said Jordan visited me several times every day and often tended for me and tried to render me some relief until he was taken sick with something like dropsy. I do not remember the precise time when he was unable to visit me. I should tink sometime in the winter of 1865. Said Isaac Jordan grew worse as I learned at the time and was taken from the prison or stockade before I was able to go see him. I was informed of his death about the 20th day of March A.D. 1865. He died soon after he was taken from the prison as I learned."

Notes for JULIA M. JORDAN:
Shown working as domestic servant, but living with her mother and step-father in the 23 June 1880 census. This is odd if she were married. Her husband does not show in the 1880 census records for Monroe.

Notes for ISAAC EDWIN JORDAN, 3D:
Isaac does not show in the 13 June 1860 census, even though he would have been 2 months old (and his mother is among the enumerated of that household)! He is also absent from the 19 July 1870 census, when he would have been 10 years old. He does appear, however, in the 23-24 June 1880 census records for Monroe, Waldo, Maine as the "step-son" of Benjamin Cookson, then married to Sarah M. (Cunningham) Jordan. There is, however, an Edward I. Jordan who is 10 years old in 1870 and appears only in that census. It seems likely that these two people are the same person, Isaac E. Jordan.
Notes for SARAH E. INMAN:
International Genealogical Index records show a marriage date for Isaac E. Jordan and Sarah Prentiss of 26 APR 1885 at Bangor, Penobscot, Maine. This is confirmed by the book "Marriage Returns of Penobscot County prior to 1892." According to "Vital Records of Monroe, Maine," the marriage intention was filed October 25, 1880.
Letters from family members Leola Abigal Jordan Marstaller and Caro Mae Jordan show marriage date of November 6, 1880. This would be logical based on the intention date, but the official records indicate considerable delay. Following up with Leola Marstaller revealed that her father, indeed, had been born out of wedlock. Edwin Prentiss had been assumed deceased in 1880 since he left the family and never again contacted them. But after filing an intent to marry, Isaac and Sarah decided to seek a divorce for Sarah from Edwin Prentiss before they married. This took several years as postings had to be made in several newspapers seeking the whereabouts of Edwin Prentiss. In the meantime, 2 children were born to the couple! Edwin Prentiss was never found.

Marriage Notes for WILLIAM JORDAN and CLARA GATCHELL:
On the occasion of their 55th wedding anniversary, the Bangor (Maine) Daily News printed this article (January 1955):
William E. Jordans Of Bangor Married 55 Years Saturday
Mr. and Mrs. William E. Jordan of Kenduskeag Avenue had no formal celebration on their 55th wedding anniversary Saturday but they were remembered with cards, flowers, and gifts.
Mr. Jordan and the former Clara Gatchell were married in Bangor by the Rev. Illsley, the pastor of the Second Baptist Church. They have been life-long residents of Bangor and have brought up five daighters and six sons all of whom are living. Adding to their enjoyment are 35 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jordan is 71 and although she had an illness a few years ago she is still able to do her own housework and work in her flower garden this summer. For 30 years Mr. Jordan was in the meat business in Bangor and Bucksport and then the depression came and wiped him out. At 59, as he puts it, "I rehabilitated myself." He commenced then to be a hand-sewer at Viners Shoe Company and he worked until last year and then retired. However, he is now back working again as retirement wasn't particularly interesting to Mr. Jordan and so he goes to work every day. He is probably the oldest shoe hand-swer in Bangor and at 73 he can turn out an excellent day's work.
Mr. Jordan loves to fish and he enjoys working in the flower garden with his wife. They go motoring each day and still enjoy life to the fullest.
Both are members of the Columbia Street Baptist Church.

Noting the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary, the Bangor Daily News published this article (page 18) on Tuesday, February 2, 1960.
"GUILFORD, Feb 1 - Mr. and Mrs. William E. Jordan, Sr. of 513 Kenduskeag Avenue, Bangor, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary here Friday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Turner, where Mrs. Jordan is spending the winter.
Mrs. Jordan is the daughter of the late Capt. Frank H. and Lora E. Gatchell of Bangor. Mrs. Jordan has been an invalid for many years and has been confined to bed most of this winter.
Mr. Jordan who is 79 years old, is employed as a hand-sewer at Viner Brothers, Inc. at Bangor. He started work there in Febrauary, 1940, and is believed to be the oldest active sewer in Bangor. Mr. Jordan drives to Guilford several times a week to see his wife.
The Jordans have 11 children, five daughters and six sons, all living. They have 41 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. During their 60 years of married life the only death in the family was that of a grandson, Roy E. Jordan, who was killed in an automobile accident in Bangor several years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Jordan were married January 29, 1900 by the Rev. George B. Illsby of the Columbia Street Baptist Church at Bangor, where they have been members for several years.
The Jordans received over 100 cards and many gifts, including one from Mrs. Jordan's sister, Mrs. Sara Trask and family. There were two wedding cakes, one from Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jordan of Dover-Foxcroft, Mr. Jordan's brother; and one from Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jordan of Bangor, made by Mrs. John Pennypacker of Bangor.
Among their callers was the Rev. Manfred Carter of the Guilford Methodist Church."

Notes for CALVIN F. JORDAN:
This Calvin is not listed in the Family records of John L. Haldane, nor is an Edwin Franklin Jordan born 3-25-1893 (according to the Family Jordan Association records obtained from the Maine State Archives). There is confusion as to whether this is the same person. That is ceratinly more likely than 2 children born to the same parents five days apart! This requires more research.
