"85 Weeks"
SUBJECT: Captian Beefheart, or Don Van Vliet as his friends call him, was an eccentric musician who around the 70's was, I guess you could say, a contemporary of Frank Zappa. Don fronted the Magic Band, which for a time included future Frank Black cohort Eric Drew Feldman. [more info on Captain Beefheart]
one of beefheart's talents was to fool the press media with difficult to check stories like his vocal range. he also turned a restless period of personal stress into 'one and a half year without any sleep', and due to the success of that fantasy he also told it to the members of the magic band like eric feldman (1976-1981). later on, when he played in the pixies and in their frontman FRANK BLACK's first solo years (1992-1994), eric repeated the impossible tale in such an impressive way that it took frank five years to start doubting it... LYRICS:
once Eric said "come gather 'round i'll tell a tale that is sure to astound
un-somnambulist that's awake see he don't sleep talkin' takin' no break walkin'
but you don't believe oo-ooh no, you don't believe no, you don't believe / as
to his fame he has two claims he is a Don and as well a Captain un-somnambulist
he was awake see for eighty-five weeks with no sleep it's crazy maybe but you
don't believe oo-ooh no, you don't believe no, you don't believe / they called
him freak and he lost all his friends could only speak to the boys in the band
un-somnambulist you stay awake and see what happens eighty-five weeks with no
nappin' but you don't believe oo-ooh no, you don't believe no, you don't believe
/ please will you listen to what then did occur? the world to him was all covered
in fur un-somnambulist let me explain see the fur changed to wood grain everything
can you believe it? but you don't believe oo-ooh no, you don't believe no, you
don't believe but you don't believe oo-ooh no, you don't believe no, you don't
believe"
