"Bullet"
SUBJECT:
After Frank's dad passed away, 12 unlicensed guns were found among his old possessions
by Frank's brother. Each gun was loaded with one bullet. That provided the inspiration
for the lyrics.
COMMENTS:
Some neat word working in this song, with some lines reversing in order the
second time around.
LYRICS:
excuse me now i've got a call / i'll take this call from Valhalla / please tell
my friends from outer space / you are my son you'll take my place / and if the
revolution comes / I've got some good friends there / take my place after all
you are my son / you take the moon i'll take the sun / and by the way if the
revolution comes / please take my riffles take my guns / a single bullet loaded
in each one / if you don't like my melody / i'll sing it in a major key / i'll
sing it very happily / but if everybody is all aboard / let's take it back to
that minor chord / you are my son you'll take my place / please tell my friends
from outer space / i'll take this call from Valhalla / excuse me now I've got
a call / I've got some good friends there / revolution comes / a single bullet
loaded in each one / please take my rifles please take my guns / and by the
way if the revolution comes / please take my rifles take my guns / you take
my place because you are my son / excuse me now i'll take the sun / i'll take
my place in Valhalla / and if the revolution comes / please take my guns
HISTORY:
I think the music was another song idea that Frank had kicking around for several
years until it finally became a finished song. I've heard him messing around
with it for a few seconds in a TV appearance back in 1994.
AUDIO:
small mp3 of that clip I just mentioned.. bit
of baby 'bullet' broadcast by MTV back in '94
OTHER VERSION:
There's an instrumental alternate version on the soundtrack to a movie called
Crime & Punishment In Suburbia (2000). The CD also includes a track from
Joey Santiago, as well as a cover of "Money Gone To Heaven" by the
band Far. Frank didn't have anything nice to say about the movie itself, however.
