"Headache"
SUBJECT: "I found the girl who moves through the calendar of light and I wrote one of the sonnets; she soothed my aching head which had counted slowly backward the rings of trees, searching, and raced foward to the time of one tree - searching - stopping finally in the now." - Frank in the press kit for the album (that first part is actually about "Speedy Marie")
There's a popular book called A Wrinkle in Time released in 1962, written by Madeleine L'Engle. It's a fictional adventure through time and space. I'm not sure if "Headache" has any relation, though.
A book more likely to have been an inspiration is Wrinkes in Time, released in 1993, written by George Smoot and Keay Davidson. The book relates the true adventures of a team of explorers engaged in the age-old human quest to understand the origins of our universe. It deals with cosmological history and scientific stuff like that.
LYRICS:
This wrinkle in time, I can't give it no credit / I thought about my space and
I really got me down / (got me down) / Got me so down, I got me a headache /
My heart is crammed in my cranium and it still knows how to pound / I was counting
rings / And I fell me into a sleep / I peeked to see if you were way back when
/ I was counting trees / Until a day when there was one / I'd hoped beneath,
asleep is where that you had been / Well, I found you / Maybe you can help me
/ And I can help you
HISTORY: I think this might be Frank's most commercially successful song. Lots of radio play, even the video was on MTV somewhat regularly for a bit.
LIVE: oh yeah
ACOUSTIC: yeah
