"You Ain't Me"

SUBJECT: "pop culture and my frustration with it" - Frank in the press kit for the album.

LYRICS:
Standing in the light / You're self-congratulatory / So I guess you have the right to be so masturbatory / And like a man with his pet / You always seem to forget that you ain't me / You ain't me / You ain't me / No, you ain't me / Did you include the question mark? / When I answered you were totally shocked / You looked at me like I was a snark while your head was extremely mentally blocked / I'm the guy from wonderland / And you never understand that you ain't me / You ain't me / The money has been spent / I'm not saying it hasn't been earned / The customers have paid / I'm just feeling kind of burned / Tell me where have you been / Oh, black-eyed mannequin

REFERENCES:
What is a snark?
"Well, a snark is a funny thing you know. . . it's an animal from a book from Lewis Carroll and I guess you could say it's an imaginary animal. Alice in Wonderland is the book, i think."
- Frank in an online chat, 96

HISTORY:
The main guitar riff in the song is one Frank says he's had since he was a teenager, never being able to make it into a song until this one. Frank acknowledges that it's reminiscent of Tommy Tutone's 1982 hit "Jenny (867-5309)", sometimes even singing a bit of the chorus ("Eight six seven five three oh nine") when he played it live. "You Ain't Me" was released as a single and was a hit in France.

LIVE: yes, a lot in 96, a little in 98.
