It was very hard to keep the proposal a secret from Felicia.  Between her unpredictability and keen intellect, I had to weave together a plan that would not let her on to the surprise to come.  I decided to propose to her at a gazebo overlooking Dana Point Harbor.   Being that it was so close to her birthday, I thought it would be best to disguise the proposal as a secret birthday party (that way I could let her think something was going on, and not have to tell her what it was).  The other fun part was trying to buy and hide the ring.  Since we spend so much time together (we even carpool to work), getting time to go to the jewelers several times provided a lot of chances to make excuses.  Hiding the ring proved to much easier.  Seeing as Felicia is only 5'2", placing it on an upper shelf  of a cabinet she walked by every day was very appropriate.

Well, the night came for the "big question" and she was very anxious to know what was going on, where we were going, etc.  I brought her to the gazebo and attempted to propose.   You rehearse what you are going to say in you head over and over, but when the time comes ... you lose it all.  When I finally got to the actual question, I kept trying to get on "bended knee", but Felicia kept leaning in to me.  I finally had to almost push her back to get space to go down to one knee.

Needless to say, she said yes!!!  I then took her to The Chart House for an Engagement/Birthday dinner.  I had invited some close friends of hers and mine, all of which had known and thankfully kept it a secret.  She had a chance to show of her new ring and celebrate with good friends.
