Little Stint Calidris minuta. An adult in worn alternate plumage discovered at Big Pond, Big Pond Cove on Brier Island, Digby Co., Nova Scotia 21 August 1997. The bird was first identified by Doug McRae and seen by myself and a dozen participants of a Field Guides birding tour, and was apparently present through at least 24 August (Field Notes Vol.52(1):23). In upper left photo, the bird is roosting with three juvenile Semipalmated Sandpipers. This record would appear to be the latest East Coast record for an adult and only the second record for Nova Scotia (Iliff & Sullivan, 2004, North American Birds Vol. 58(3):316-323), though details of this sighting were not incorporated into this recent article. Further details of this bird (with photos) were published in Nova Scotia Birds (fide D. McRae). Above photos © Doug McRae, used with permission.
