DEMO DUMPSTER F.A.Q.
To Record Your Own Demo: open up the console and type record demoname (replace "demoname" with anything you want). To stop recording, type stop into the console. Your recorded demo file will be saved to Kingpin/Main/demos/demoname.dm2 -- be sure to use different names or subsequent recorded demos will overwrite the previous one. If you record an interesting, unique, or funny demo, please zip it up and send it in! I'll post it here.
To Playback Your Demo: open up the console and type map demoname.dm2 and press return (this example assumes you installed a demo named demoname.dm2 into Kingpin/Main/Demos)
To Upload A Demo To Demo Dumpster: zip the file, then use the
email
link or use the KP4EVER Uploads FTP Server.
Here are the FTP details:
1) Host Address: downloads.kingpinforever.com
2) User Name: uploads
3) Password: uploads
To Download A Demo From Demo Dumpster: click on a demo Filename from within our DEMO DIRECTORY and save to your desktop.
To Install A Demo: Unzip the file and place the .dm2 file in Kingpin/Main/demos (create this directory if it doesn't exist). Make sure you read the included readme.txt file for any special installation instructions. To playback or view a demo someone else recorded, you must have the same map (.bsp file) they recorded the demo on properly installed on your own machine. In other words, any default KP map demo will work, but demos recorded on custom maps require you to have the same version of those custom maps within your own maps directory (typically C:\Program Files\Kingpin\Main\Maps)
To Benchmark A Demo: open up the console and type timedemo
1 then press return (this sets timedemo mode to "1" or "on", which
will make your computer play the demo as fast as possible and report the
average Frames Per Second on completion -- higher is better :) Then start
the demo using the playback instructions listed above. To play the
demo back at normal speed, turn off timedemo mode by opening up the console
and typing timedemo 0.
