Thank you for visiting the Fontainebleau Improvement Association’s home on the Internet. We hope our website will be a useful resource for informing our neighbors and the New Orleans community about news and issues of concern to Fontainebleau residents.

Fontainebleau is one of New Orleans’ newer neighborhoods with its roots stretching only to the turn of the 20th century. Many of its houses were built during the late Craftsman period and reflect California Bungalow, Mission Revival, and Shingle-Style influences. Its charm, quiet, safety, and old-fashioned neighborly atmosphere make it one of New Orleans’ most pleasant areas to live.

Please don’t hesitate to make suggestions for our website or to let me know if there is any way the FIA can help you. Again, thank you, and welcome.

The illustrations above are from the winning entry in the 1912 design competition for the Fontainebleau Drive entrance. In keeping with the period's interest in all things exotic (Moroccan Revival, Spanish Revival, Egyptian Revival, etc.), the original plans called for the piers to be topped by Egyptian cats. Cooler heads prevailed and the piers were eventually topped by more traditional lions.
