- At the Second Annual FPYC Liberty Cup Invitaitonal, Gold played some very nice soccer (characterized by several well-executed combinations) in wet conditions in its two Saturday matches at Draper Drive against two strong opponents, the Great Falls Real Force and Alexandria Thunder, and ended up splitting the two games, 0-1 and 4-2 respectively. Unfortunately, Gold's Sunday games were scheduled on grass, and its tourney prematurely ended on Saturday. Gold starts its WAGS season April 4 against the ASA Magic Classic at home.
- White, the only Academy team to get in all 4 matches (at the brand-new Stafford turf field, our home practice field), started off slowly in its first match, falling to ODSL D1 HYS Power. After that warm-up, White regained its composure and momentum, and swept its final three matches, including a finale for 3d place against FC Frederick White...with the play of the game being Hannah F's cross that Keia confidently tapped in (and the close second Maddie's series of give-and-gos -- including a header pass -- with Keia down the middle of the field). Way to go, White!
- Blue, playing up in U13 Premier, debuted 11v11 with a late Saturday night loss versus the CSA Sting at Fairfax HS -- on a gigantic field. After a (very) early Sunday morning 2-0 shut-out of the SYSA Tigers, Blue staged a courageous comeback against a very large and skilled ABGC Freedom after being down 0-1 at the half while playing against a strong wind. Finally getting some momentum in their passing game during the second half (and with the strong wind blowing in their favor), the players gained their courage and confidence after Jessica found the back of the net, and began creating more chances. Beating the keeper 1v1 after a pass came from the right side, Jennifer scored the game-winning goal with a looping shot into the upper right pocket, and Blue held tight defensively in the final minutes to preserve the win. As the tourney would up that evening, unbenownst to Blue, due to a series of ties by the other teams, the two wins enabled a first place finish and Blue were the Champions (CSA Sting the finalists). A big thank you to Ariana, from Gold, and Lauren R for helping us get to a roster of 14!!!
WAY TO GO, WILDCATS!!!
