I wanted to stay on hiatus but this was featured in my paper this morning, so here I go again. Can't help it. What they want seems so reasonable.
Thursday November 25, 1999
While I haven't dropped off of the face of the earth, I am still in hiatus. But only for a little while longer. Meanwhile, if you have a reasonably fast connection visit here for another example of the kind of internet stuff that I like because it seems like magic. And, while they aren't the Mills Brothers, I did like the Beatles.
Friday November 19, 1999
There You Have It will be on a short hiatus. Use this for enlightenment for a while.

The question of Vieques, Puerto Rico is in the news again today.
This is advice to President Clinton. Since you seem to be caught between a rock and a hard place, or the devil and the deep blue sea, or damned if you do and damned if you don't, or a lose lose in every sense of the word, just do what you must know is right and forget the baloney fat which will hit you regardless. Stop the bombing and other war game silliness there. End of advice.
Wednesday November 17,1999
There is no real news today according to my papers. They report that there is an almost deal on the budget, an almost deal for peace between the IRA and the Unionists in Northern Ireland, an almost reason for a cause of the latest plane crash, an almost stalemate in the Mid-East peace talks.
So here is one opinion worth reading from yesterdays papers. Not is Bush smart enough for a change, an article that demonstrates whose tool he is. I admit that I have not read the stuff here on this site, but I will.
Also, for a change I will propose simple solutions to several issues that, for some reason or other, elude the politicians both Democratic and Republican as well as any the other little guys out there. Before the proposals here are the issues:
Watch for the proposals.

I don't know the guy who maintains this page. I wish I did. I have been on his mailing list for a long time and whoever he is he is one of the movers who should share the credit when the US finally gets Universal Health Care.
I put this up now because the health proposals of both Gore and Bradley are not universal . The Gore plan is more incrementalism and Bradley's is nothing more than a plan to subsidize the insurance industry. And the insurance industry is the enemy of genuine Single Payer Health Care.
Support Single Payer Health Care. Health care for people, not for profit!!

This morning, I watched my usual television show and heard a plea from Brian Lamb that the newspapers will not honor his request to always print C-SPAN in all caps. He complained that most will not listen and follow their own style guides. Well, I will.
Sunday November 14, 1999
As usual, the three major network Sunday blather shows all have the same basic guests. A frontcourt and backcourt of oldtimey basketball players who will help good old Dollar Bill Bradley raise a few bucks tonight. I decided not to bother with them.
But I did watch the FOX Sunday show because they had the unlikely duo of Pat Buchanan and Lenora Fulani on to talk about Pat's bid for the Presidency. Now I am not at all a fan of Pat, nor do I agree with much of Fulani's politics, ( her official web site is busted but here is a sample of a recent editorial piece she wrote) but the interview did show that both are actually smart people. Very smart people. This in complete contrast to the guy that 60% of us say we want to be the next President, the pitiful George W. (read here what Tony Snow, the FOX show host and ex-speech writer for Georgie W's daddy, says about the not too swift Georgie W)
At one point on the show, Pat and Lenora debated about the value and merit of Frantz Fanon's The Wretched of the Earth. This while recently, Georgie W tried to cheat on a quiz about the books he read as a kid. Wonder what he thinks about Fanon's book. snicker chuckle

I am not in the mood for the usual political stuff today. I am too busy being confused over trying to decide if I should have the @home internet service installed by my cable company. The questions I have are getting fuzzy answers from the marketing people.
So while I try to decide, have a look here for some interesting stuff. Especially the Everest item.
Friday November 12, 1999
This morning I was watching C-SPAN again and as part of the Presidents Series they are covering Lyndon Johnson. I was reminded that he was the last real Democratic president. Others who followed were a make believe one and a so called New Democrat. All I can do is to sigh and wonder.
However, in todays Hartford Courant a real Democrat writes a column that does invoke the old ideals of the Democratic Party. Read it.

Thought that this article, which is about one of the monumental cases that the Supreme Court is going to decide this year, might go unnoticed. Now, it will not.
First it was Kansas, now it is Oklahoma. Next, I suppose George W will try to add Texas to the list of the enlightened. After all he may not claim to be a genius, but he is "...plenty smart".
Remember the whales? Here is more.
Wednesday November 10, 1999
President Clinton, please, in your final months in office, use reason and lift the foolish blockade and isolation of Cuba. This poor small country even under the leadership of an aging revolutionary and "scary commie", is not a threat to the USA.
It's time to for us to grow up and forget about the Cuban ex-pat Miami vote. Do the right thing.
While we are at the business of growing up, and I have ranted a little about this before, stop the Navy from using Vieques as a target for the boys to play (and prey) on.
Monday November 8, 1999
Over the weekend I looked in on most of the Sunday blather shows. I saw and heard a whole lot of the usual predictable conventional wisdom sort of baloney. These guys are always so afraid of not being seen as clever that it is like a conspiracy to all say the same lame stuff. " Oh the questions were just gotcha blah blah" "Well, are you an alpha or a beta blah blah blah" "Aren't we all clever to expose all this stuff blah blah blah" That was the tone for this week.
Meanwhile, brooding about George W's dumbness has become an obsession for me. I keep trying to imagine this hapless man sitting in a room with people and having a serious debate about some important decision that has to be made. All I can think of is George W insisting that it "tastes great". Or is "less filling". For the life of me it is impossible for me to imagine him debating anything more weighty. Let alone understanding it.
I understand though, that this week in some interview or another he will say "... yeah but I am plenty smart". That should assure us.

No, I have nothing to say about the big Microsoft trial, nor it's impact. I plead ignorance and disinterest. However I have a question. Do you remember the Amiga and it's very early GUI? And how about GeoWorks which tried to compete with the often junky and slow early version of Windows?
My advice to Microsoft. Figure out a way to make Windows invisible and stable for us light duty users.
Friday November 5, 1999
Slowly, and hopefully surely, the word is getting around. As two of the most recent examples clearly demonstrate, the press is starting to question George W's smarts.
Who needs to know about those foreigners anyway. Some will say.
Oh it's all just silly elitist stuff Others will say.
Yeah right!
Thursday November 4, 1999
Maybe a little late but nevertheless right on, my local newspaper
has taken it's lead from There You Have It and editorialized
about our rants of Oct 20th and Oct.27.
Now for today. Bob Smith, the despicable and hypocritical Senator from New Hampshire is on c-span right now. This guy who dishonors the Senate and especially Senator Chafee, is the biggest reason to worry about and fear the Republican Party. If the leadership of GOP is so weak as to allow this sham of a man to take the Chairmanship of the Environment and Public Works committee what else are they capable of doing?
Save me from the GOP!!!
Wednesday November 3, 1999
By now, most of the morning talkers on TV and radio will be telling us that there is no additional information about the plane crash and telling us how they see some national trend or another in yesterdays election results. Some partisan newspapers like The Washington Times will do the same thing. Unless there saying what I am saying, it's all Baloney Fat. Yesterdays elections were all pretty much decided on local issues and personalities.
My local election centered around a referendum to fund school repairs and upgrading. It failed and failed big. My guess is that since in these off year election mostly geezers vote, they decided that the lousy facilities didn't effect them so they voted against it. And I am saying this as a genuine geezer.
I am not surprised. I am disappointed.
Tuesday November 2, 1999
It is Election day in many cities and towns. Good practice for the big one in a year from now. So, I am going down to vote to keep the city council in place in my town and to vote for a referendum to float bonds for $110,000,000 plus or minus a few dollars. This is to repair and expand all of the elementary schools in town. It will be a very close vote and only a handful of the towns voters will even vote so a classic case of every vote being important.
Now, and this I think is important, the new website vote.com is small example of a trend which will eventually be misused to the possible ruin of representative democracy. It claims, along with other web "voting" sites to be the purest form of democracy. That's pure baloney-fat. What it is claims to do is influence the elected representatives with the so-called views of the people. What it, and other similar sites actually do, is to try to influence with views that are just the opposite of random scientific polling.
Dangerous stuff!
Monday November 1, 1999
So I could be talking about Bob- the buffoon -Smith who now wants back into the GOP because he might be able to get the chair of Chafee's committee, Environment and Public Works. What a travesty.
Instead, I want to talk about the reason that so many lobbyists, other corporate interests, Senators, Congressmen, and others are endorsing George W Bush. They have figured out that in addition to being dumb, he has another "quality" that they admire and require for his total manipulation. Did you ever hear of Silly Putty ? Well study up. This is George W.
Enough said. You can fill in all the rest. Just remember where you heard it first.
