There You Have It

This place was created near the end of the twentieth century just for the heck of it..

Thursday August 3, 2000 aka July 34, 2000

Yes, still July as I feel it, but August promises to get here maybe tomorrow, if not Monday for sure.

But today IS the day that the Eagle flies for millions of us. It's the day the checks arrive, or get deposited. And it's a good day to note that reason number two to defeat the GOP is that these people have never forgivven, nor gotten over FDR's greatest gift to America, Social Security. These people want to begin to kill it by the ruse of "privatization". And, alas, a lot of folks are swallowing this bait hook line and sinker.

Meanwhile forty or fifty million beneficiaries of this, the wonderfully managed and best example of government's main function, will, without even thinking much about it, have a visit from the Eagle. The GOP is anathema to this system. They are chomping at the bit. They have to be defeated.

Now for my small departure from loving the socialism aspects of government to a little anarchy. My favorite substitute for napster is this program. It works just about as well as napster and may be much harder to stop. Long live anarchy. Well a little bit anyway.

Wednesday August 2, 2000 aka July 33,2000

I will officially end this month in a couple of days when the weather forecasters promise that it will stop raining. The coolest July has also been one of the wettest here. Here are some other July weather facts. This is another way of saying that I have not been paying any ( well, just a little) attention to the GOP lovefest in Philly.

Here are two views of the convention from women. One about the reality of what is going on. Another by the wistful and gone looney former Reagan ( remember that city on a hill baloney ) speechwriter about what she dreams will go on.

What is going on is not much, not even good deception. Oh. I did finally find some classic Carmen Miranda. Remember Quanto la Gusta and Tico Tico?

Friday July 28, 2000

So, for the next few days---not entirely without connection to the GOP convention ---There You Have It will publish rarely, but will be very busy trying to figure out just what in the heck those guys mean by, "faith based" charity and distributing of federal money, "privatization" of anything, "Dick Cheney?", and who am I and why am I here, "compassionate conservative" and other oxymorons, "silly grinning ladies of a certain age and wearing expensive red suits with tasteful pearls and brooches" all over the TV and the convention talking about everything Republicans stand for and saying nothing, and "other duties as assigned" which is a line from the only written job description that I ever actually had back in 1956 and when I was a Republican who voted for Ike and was working as a department of the Army civilian at the Frost Effects Laboratory of the US Corps of engineers in Waltham MA and was the only job I ever had that I actually liked.

By the way, I didn't find much Carmen Miranda, but I did find a dozen versions of Beseme Mucho, but not this one, darn it.

Thursday July 27, 2000

What a strange and fast moving time this is. Less than a year ago I never heard the word napster. If someone had used it I couldn't have guessed. I imagine that was true for nearly everyone except for a very very few. Six months ago I along with a whole lot of others not only heard of it, but were actually using it. But I bet that a vast majority of Americans still had never heard the word. Now, my local newspaper cites Napster and the ruling against it on the front page, above the fold. Pheeeewww! Talk about a fast pace! From creation by some high school kid to a front page headline that most people understand in a few months. So now does this mean that I have to go out and learn about gnutella ?

Thats it for today. Gotta go find some Carmen Miranda recordings on napster before it's too late.

Wednesday, July 26, 2000

So there are others who concur with me and the obnoxious Barbara Bush.(see the item on Tuesday) Here is one example and another. What's surprising is that everyone doesn't see this and this, which is yet another similary themed story. Ah, maybe they will before it's too late.

This story, the frustration of another missed chance, is linked to the election. It's obvious to me that the parties see the end of the Clinton Presidency as the end of the current peace process. I hope they meet again before it's over and get it done.

A long time ago, or at least now it seems so, I was in Costa Rica in the days before it was discovered by the boomers and while there, visited the campus of a place called the University for Peace. They had a statue of Oscar Arias and another of Gandhi. While I have never been a "peacenik", nor a pacifist I was very moved by the statues and impressed that this small poor country would have such a place. Their slogan, "If you want peace, work for peace." is appropriate for the dilemma facing Barak and Arafat today.

A radio station broadcasts from there on shortwave. Here is their homepage.

Tuesday, July 25, 2000

This is how it probably went up in Kennebunkport the other day. "Poppy, did you hear me Poppy", shouted Barbara, " I don't care what that thereyouhaveit person said the other day, I want you to get Dick Cheney to agree to look after little George. We don't want him to get into too much trouble if they actually elect him do we"

It has to be, there is no other explanation for "selecting" this guy.

Meanwhile how are they going to muzzle Mrs. Cheney. Do any of you remember her from her short run as on CNN's Crossfire show where she made Pat Buchannan look like a moderate. I mean this is one screaming out of control right wing wacko.

Enough of that. Read this. Pretty much in line with my feelings .

Friday, July 21, 2000

They are still at it and it has to be for the reason that they actually want an agreement. Doesn't it? Sure the right wingers here are saying that Barak stayed so that Clinton would not be dissed. Baloney-fat. The problem with the right wingers is that their obsession with anything Clinton has long ago ruined any chance they had to be reasonable

And how about the talk of a vice-president for Barbara's little guy. Doesn't anyone else see the absurditity of trying to find anyone small enough so as not to overshadow that character? Next to George W. even Skippy Quayle has gravitas.

I have to chime in on the Carl Everett stuff. I was watching on television when he went nuts and I was afraid. I have no sympathy for the guy. He is scary. Baseball and the Red Sox don't need him.

Thursday, July 20, 2000

Despite the doom gleefully reported by some earlier this morning , the peace summit does continue with, what seems to me, a feeling and belief that if not now, an agreement will not be possible for a long time.

And on this day in history seemingly immpossibe stuff has happened. Maybe it will again.

By the way, the car repair guy actually told me that my car did not need the repair.( see the other day's short whine) Faith restored.

Wednesday, July19, 2000

I hope this isn't true. Since these talks have started the forces working against them have been building both over in the Mid-East and here. The same looney wackos who have been trying to paint the talks as merely a Clinton photo-op and who have gone so far as to stage this Hillary attack at this time will be delighted if the talks do break down. These guys, all of whom will do anything to get the character Bush elected would do even more to bring down a Clinton, either of them. If the character Bush had any spine he would disown them and discredit them. Maybe he will.

Now I know that the Hillary story and the Peace talks are not even remotely an the same level. One is truely life and death, the other merely political muck wallowing, but read this nonsense anyway.

And speaking of nonsense, C-SPAN where the Mornig Journal call in show is rapidly becoming an amusing extreme right forum for anything, had a half hour call in debate on creationism vs. evolution. Yes they did. Believe it or not.

Monday July 17, 2000

Haven't mentioned Cuba in a while, nor have I harped about healthcare for a while, so have a look here to learn a little about both from a partisan, theirs and mine, point of view.

I want to tell all of the Democrats in politics to say to heck with these fools. Do not compromise with them on this issue. Demand a Medicaid prescription benifit for all, or nothing. Don't let them browbeat us into a non-plan compromise. This is one place where peeling the onion is not the way to go.

Now some personal stuff. This week I am taking my car in for repair(s) that I may need. Or may not... and that's scary. Even scarier, this morning, very early I rolled over and saw something flickering in the early dawn light outside my bedroom window and when I went over to check it out it was a lot of things flickering. It was a ton of bats. Now that's even scarier than bringing your car to the car repair guy for a repair that you may or may not need, isn't it? Where do these things go when they are not outside my bedroom window flickering and flying and scaring me. In my condiominium attic? Good thing I just had a very short haircut.

Friday July 14, 2000

The second half of the season (see reference just below) started off just fine. Nothing wrong with a little luck for a change. Keep it going guys!

More places ought to do this and more important, they should enforce it . This is the stupidest and most self important habit the " important busy types" have decided to do. Relax guys!!

Now for genuinely important stuff. And right now, what could be more important. Forget all the wackos on all sides. Stay working and find a way to do it, guys!!!

And I know this is tedious, but go ahead and read a little anyway. Yes, I know it's not the national GOP, but it might as well be. Spread the word , guys!!!!

Thursday July 13, 2000

We are back. And......

It's this kind of arrogant baloney that should make everyone reject the notion that the GOP should run both the executive and the legislative. Think of the absurdity of this. $390 million dollars over a period of several years. This is hardly a measurable percentage of the budget. Why can't I stop being surprised by these people.

OpSail 2000 came to Connecticut. It started yesterday with the Parade of tall ships. More events the rest of the week

And to all the wacko naysayers, who are praying for a failure and breakdown here, I say to heck with you. It can and should work. Go for it Barak and Arafat.

The second half starts today. It's still a long way until October.

Friday July 7, 2000

Listen to these people President Clinton. Don't even wait for the results of the rigged test scheduled for today. This is as silly a system as the phony Reagan star-wars was. This is the stuff of the wackos. And of George W and his string pullers.

A harbinger? Could be. Before you decide that I am getting crazy about the weather, let me explain. I am, and always have been.

And back in the exciting old days of "the impeachment", this smarmy guy was everywhere with his spins and leaks. Don't you just love it. This one will drive the talk show wackos crazy.

Thursday July 6, 2000

The weather today is perfect. This is worth noting because. I love the weather today. It is almost but not quite chilly this morning. It is dry as a bone. It will be around 80 degrees this afternoon. There are just a few high fluffy fair weather clouds. The sky is blue, blue. Oh for a way to preserve this weather.

And speaking of weather, this was the kind of day loved back when I was captaining CHIMERA ( my old boat, not to be confused with my friends sail boat with a similar name) and would every once in a while maybe tap the dock, or maybe the boat in the next dock, or ---well, you get my drift. It is ego salving to discover that it even happens to the big boys.

In case you have forgotten there is a political battle trying to rage. Here is an accurate answer to those wackos who want to forget the past and create distortions and just plain baloney-fat. By the way, the other day a character on some sit-com ( don't know which one - it was reported to me by a valued source) actually used the word baloney-fat in the same context that I have been using it all my life. And here I thought that it was a term of art invented by and only used by me and my family.

Wonder if it will ever be referenced here.

Wednesday July 5, 2000

I am into lazy for real. I am also bored. So, here are a couple of items from a site I look at every once in a while when I am , well, bored and lazy. Item number one is a little dated, and item number two is not.

Tuesday July 4, 2000

Celebrate the Fourth.

Monday July 3, 2000

Another month. another Monday, and it's actually been a real Summer for a few days around here.

Here is a link to a site that hopes to make the subject of the death penalty and it's absurdity an issue. Perhaps they will succeed.

Newsweek has joined the "...it's the Supreme Court stupid" crowd. More will follow. And speaking of this magazine, they have a new poll that seems to imply that there may be hope for America and that Bush, the tool of the wacko crowd, could lose. Here on the eve of July 4th that's good news. Now if only the other candidate who might win were an actual "old democrat". Ah, wishful thinking. Or is it. Could Gore be a closet liberal, especially if the good guys win back the House of Representatives. Yes.

Happy Fourth of July!! See some fireworks. Cook a hotdog. Eat some potato salad. Have a Coke. Drive a Chevy. Go to a parade.
