This place was created near the end of the twentieth century just for the heck of it..

The Red Sox are playing lousy lately. They could have had a two or three game lead over the hated Yankees if they had won just a couple of games more than the one or two they salvaged on the last homestand along with a couple more while the team from the gotham city was on that 8 out of 10 losing streak. This is not helping my mood.
However, this does( a little anyway). Or am I clutching at straws?
Otherwise, I am still busy contemplating the nature of things. In the meantime folly waits.

I am going to take a few days off while I consider that this hapless dupe along with the rest of the scary bunch are winning,.....for now. See you soon.

Being a nothing better to do geezer, and being interested in politics, I watched Rudi Giuaiani give his self-serving speech yesterday which I heard as full of self love, self pity . and generally speaking anything but the "candor" and "humanity" that the press is telling us was there. This story from MSNBC is typical of the absurd coverage given to this event.
This guy has got cancer. This guy thinks he is the only one ever to face life and death choices. This guy thinks that everyone is holding their breath waiting for his next "gee this is soooo hard" lament. This guy is plain full of baloney. But that's always been true, hasn't it.
The guy who may deserve a little empathy is the guy down the street-one of thousands -who is in his middle fifties or early sixties who has no medical insurance---corporate down sizing maybe---has a few bucks in the bank, and is faced with choices about treatment for a potentialy deadly cancer. After he chooses the first question he will be asked is how do you plan to PAY for this buddy? Where is MSNBC's story on this? Don't hear this guy whining do you Rudi.
So long Rudi. Hope you lick the big C. Other than that, I couldn't care less about you.
While I am at MSNBC, here is their story about the insane move by the National Rifle Association's foray into the "family values" theme park business. The family that shoots together ..................................????? Shooting gun theme parks!!! Are we all going nuts????
I encountered this site the other day. I liked it so I am passing it along. Straight forward look at American Photography.

Oh no! Lets be very very afraid. Elian has a "dirty commie" school uniform on. Omigod!!!. See the scary picture here, but be warned, it is graphic. Don't these idiots ever give up?
Now you have heard me speak about Don Imus before. I have listened to him and probably will again. But I know who and what I am listening to. A simple "shock jock" ex DJ who, in the time honored methods of the locker room and Howard Stern, talks "dirt" and gets laughs. I recently wrote to one of my silly Senators, Joe Lieberman, and told him that he was being a hypocrite to appear with Don Imus whose humor depends on racism, sexism, and the toilet. Lieberman, you may know is the self appointed pious voice of morality and censorship in the Senate. Lieberman recently replied to my letter with the idiotic comment that he found Imus to be a good interviewer and , missing my point completely, invoked the right to talk to persons of all points of view. The sap, ( senator_lieberman@lieberman.senate.gov) should subscribe read this from time to time.
And a final note, here is Sue, the famous t.rex.

Well, well, well, what do we have here. Some other outlet finally getting the message. A little behind the curve, but nevertheless helpful in getting the message out. IT IS THE SUPREME COURT STUPID. While Social Security and Medicare are still very important as issues, they are number two in importance.
On to other stuff. The first place Red Sox lost one they should have won last night. And I don't want any of that "they can't win them all" baloney-fat. They should have won this one, period end of story.
And when are we all going to get tired of these obvious and sophmoric kind of stories? Giualani is a fascist like scary guy with or without the big C and with or without the human-like girl friend stuff. Thats all that matters. I suppose that this kind of baloney is with us until the election. He should have taken my advice before the stupid "...and I am seeking a separation from my wife" blurting. ( see April 28,2000 I can't remember how to bookmark and I don't have time to re-figure it out today )

This reactionary ruling yesterday by the Supreme Court gives another and very extreme reason for the war cry"...it's The Supreme Court ...stupid". This rapid rush by the Rehnquist court back to the eighteenth century has got to be stopped. The only way to stop and hopefully reverse it is to not let that GOP dupe get to the White House. These very narrow rulings cannot be allowed to force the United States back to the bad old days.
Now I do not usually pay attention to anything Bobby Night. But if this isn't the silliest "zero tolerance" baloney ever, I will be a monkeys uncle. One more last chance for Bobby to behave.Even in the strange world of big time college basketball, this stuff stinks. Why do they even bother with pretense?
That's all. Gotta go.

......and the Red Sox are in first place. How about that.
And, it seems just hours or at the most days ago when I was mulling over the fact that it was the year 2000 and now I am mulling over the fact that it's five months old(well nearly). The usual oldguy lament is "where does the time go". My lament is simpler, "time goes"!
Speaking of time, here are some things that won't ever happen but should.
Repeal the Second Amendment and make owning guns a privilege not a right.
Add an Amendment making Health Care a right, not a privilege. Life, liberty, health care and the pursuit of happiness. Sounds about right.
Simple enough and wouldn't it be a better country?
And for some strange reason the "people" are actually thinking about supporting plans and (jerks ) like this which at best are designed to make what will be left of Social Security and Medicare resemble welfare programs to eventually be "unentitled" like we recently did in the so-called "welfare reform" acts.

I use napster. There, I have confessed. I have yapped a lot in the past, the long ago past before There You have It was created, that respecting computer softeware's propriety and value was important. And mostly, I still believe that. But not only do I use napster to aqquire music singles ( sort of software) a lot, I think it is ok to do so. If I have--- now let me use new hip sounding lingo--ripped a few of my CD cuts into mp3's to listen while I am toiling away here at the keyboard, I have no problem sharing them with others who share my taste. Nor do I have a problem if there are others out there who have stuff I may want and allow me to share it. Now I have not ever downloaded anything by Metallica. I don't even know who or what Metallica is. So I am not hip enough to have been blacklisted by the napster guys. But then again I am so unhip that I didn't get even one message with the I Love You bug attatched. I am digressing. This article about the issue is sort of interesting. I do not see napster, nor gnutella which I do not use, as political issues but rather as simply part of the new commercialism of the internet. It will all sort out. Meanwhile where else could I find a copy of Amado Mio except on napster. ( it's part of this CD) and wouldn't you know some other guy, probably a geezer and a fan of GILDA too, had it up on napster.

Today, three judges, all of whom I assume are oldguys like me, will hear arguments about whether a six year old kid can, and indeed has applied for political asylum in the United States. Now the kid, Elian Gonzalez, can't read or write either English or his native Spanish, he was hastily tought to sort of write his name and told to sign it on a document that was filled out in English explaining about his fears of persecution and his longing for democracy. But these same judges have alredy said "that's ok..... this counts" What a silly and stupid judgment. Now the same guys are about to make a ruling that could create new law. Talk about a scary scenario.
Finally some news about " It's The Supreme Court...stupid" from somewhere else. I hope this is just the start of trying to make it an issue by the other media.
This new Giuliani stuff has certainly got the GOP wackos all worked up. If you need confirmation just look at Drudge today. Oh well.
For more news, go here.

A long time ago, on May 30th, 1972, my wife's sister's husband (more commonly called a brother-in-law) who was a youngish (25) Viet Vet won the second one million dollar lottery in Massachusetts. This was back in the days when that now paltry sum still warrented front page banner headlines in the then, Boston Herald Traveller, which sold at the time for 15 cents. ( I bought and still have a copy of that paper). This had several effects on me. First I was insanely jealous. Second I was more than a little mad. Third I figured that I might as well never buy a lottery ticket because , well ----lightning wouldn't hit twice and all that . So for years and years I did not. Then came "retirement" and since buying lottery tickets is part of the geezer life, I relented to the wishes of my wife , and Ido buy tickets for the state Classic Lottery. Only one ticket per drawing mind you. I have not, however gotten over my anger at my now ex-brother in law enough to buy any other kind of lottery tickets including these super duper ones. And now, thankfully, I will not have to read more stories about the latest super-duper potential prize for a while. And even more thankfully, it is unlikely that I will either know or be related to the latest winners of a super-duper prize so I will be spared another round of envy and anger.

Months ago, I was here ranting about McCain's so-called straight talk. I said he was nothing less than an extreme right winger, if not a wacko, who would be a bigger disaster than even George W as a president. Now, the finishing touches on the wreck of the "straight talk express" is about to happen.
I wonder if this poor freedom seeking baseball player emerging now to tell the world about his plight has anything to do with the May 11th oral arguments in the 11th circuit's questionable Elian Gonzalez. appeal hearings. No, I won't go there. I will leave the conspiracy rantings to the wackos on the right. By the way, C-SPAN that bastion of fairness and accuracy, has for the past two mornings, given lots of air time to idiots calling in and quoting this wacky site about Clinton and the dead Cardinal. Then to give credance, they have one of their junior staffers go to the site and read reverently about unnamed sources quoting "death bed wishes" of the late Cardinal. GIHSMFAT.

Maybe, just maybe the man is simply dim. Why does all this analysis, albeit in the name of humor, fail to see the obvious.
Lately, I rarely agree with this reactionary guy except when it comes to baseball. He knows baseball. On this, I too am a reactionary. Lets go back to, say 1948. Or I will even accept the middle sixties.
When you hear George W or any Republican say "privatize" substitute "eliminate" and you will get the true drift. I know that the blatherers dragged out old and extinct Democrats to talk about this in an effort to make Bush look "moderate" both of these guys are not going to be players. One is used up and the other is just used. Besides they were not even talking about the so-called Bush proposal because all Bush has done is to read a speech about the subject. He has offered no proposal.
I watched a little of Ralph Nader yesterday on C-SPAN. If he would only get off the silly stance that Bush and Gore are the same on the issues and that globalism is somehow anti -labor I could vote for this guy. The problem is that a vote for him is the same as a vote for the GOP.

Blast! The day came and went and it didn't happen. Better luck next time. And I suppose I could say something just as trite about this astronomy story. But I can't think of anything that is, trite, stupid, clever, funny or otherwise.
Friday May 5, 2000
Read this article from todays Hartford Courant. This is just one homely example of why Democrats are still needed at all levels in politics. Forget Bush. Forget Gore. When deciding about who to vote for, remember Daphne Blocker and thousands more like her. Vote for them.
Yesterday , through serendipity, I found this site which led me to this one. What a day. Ain't life grand.
Thursday May 4, 2000
And I bet that he called him stinky too.
I know that I agreed with the compromise on Vieques a while back, but I still think the Navy would be well served by just accepting defeat on this one. Practicing WW II type tactics is not a good enough reason to continue the fight.
This probably won't get very far, but hammering the "Hammer"is fun. I wish more voters would get to know this guy who will be one of the chief manipulators of George W if he gets to be President. He (DeLay) is one scary dude.
And this move to stifle the classic brushback pitch is stupid. The sissy Diaz ought to go back to the bush leauges, where he belongs.
I'm off to enjoy the potential great weather today since it will be the only day of genuine old fashioned spring. They are calling for the mid eighties for the next few days. Once again mother nature is giving me grief.
Wednesday May 3, 2000
The list of things that bug me is huge, you know that. Things and issues like Elian Gonzalez, Vieques, George W., right wing wackos, Barbara Bush, Windows 98, the Republican congress, Republicans in general, public funding of sports stadia, the so-called Christian Right, some of the so-called liberal issues ( oh, there are a few that really do bug me), phony holidays, very very very rich folks, no one screaming for Universal Health Care, closure, psycho-babble, the idiots on the political talk shows on tv, I could go on and on and on and on and on. But I rarely whine about bugs themselves.
Now I can reveal that bugs themselves are what bugs me the most. I hate them. All of them. Even the cute ones. Even the nice ones. Even lady-bugs.
Tuesday May 2, 2000
For the life of me, I can't fathom why this is so bad that it gets front page news all over the country. Is the Millionaire show really that important?
Here's something that is. I have been following baseball since ...well, forever. The brushback pitch belongs in the game. Sissy rookies like the guy who pouted when he was brushed back by Pedro the other day should take up some other trade if they don't like it. Believe me, if Pedro wanted to hit the sissy Diaz, he would have. Stupid incident and bad reporting in the article using the term "beanball". Neither pitcher threw a beanball. Idiots!
And this near hysterical piece in the looney tunes(mooney tunes)Washington Times deserves a mention. A(dirty commie) doctor was carrying medicine in her kit. That just goes to show ya.
Monday May 1, 2000
Today I want to remember all the Marxist guys I used to argue with back in the fifties when I was sort of a libertarian ( without knowing the expression) and sort of a fascist too. I was brought up to be afraid of "commies" and people in unions. Most of the guys I used to argue with are probably now arch conservatives with ties to the intellectual right and fairly rich. I also want to remember and even say hello to those few guys I now know who will pull out their little pins of Marx and Lenin, pin them to their coats and hope someone notices. Wish I had one.
I also want to give everyone this link to Zippy. ( (SEE TODAY'S). I can't figure out how to get it to work right. If you can get it to work fine. It's only sort of funny anyway.)
I miss the old days. I don't care about stuff like this, or this . One is meaningless and after 11 years so is the other. I still care about the Vieques mess. Our little invasion fleet is about ready act. But why bother for crying out loud. Stupid stuff.
