East's German Club is open to anyone currently enrolled in German or any student who has completed German III in the past. Dues will not be collected this year, but students have the opportunity to sign up to be a member. Donations are accepted. The purpose of German Club is to stimulate interest in German and its culture, to give German students a sense of belonging, and to spread German culture throughout the community.
Board members will be chosen by the sponsor from the German IV-V class. The Chairperson of the board will be chosen in the fall by the selected board. Class representatives will be chosen from other classes in the fall to serve on the board. Officers should be good examples for other German students. They may be removed from the board after three unexcused absenses.
German Club will meet at least monthly. The board will plan meetings and notify members at least one week in advance.
Past activities have included a fall picnic, game night with pizza, a winter party, carolling at the nursing home, Spaghettieis, movie night, laser tag, visit to Edelweiss restaurant, and attend the Nebraska Association of Students' of German convention annually.
The German Club does a fundraiser to help students with the cost of attending convention and the restaurant, as well as allowing an opportunity for those going to Germany to put some money toward their trip (see GAPP for trip info).

The Nebraska Association of Students of German holds its annual convention in the spring of each year. The convention is a one-day event consisting of competitions and seminars, ending with an awards banquet. Competitions include knowledge bowls, poetry recitation and spelling bees for each level of German, directed dialogue for lower levels, and extemporaneous speaking for advanced students. Artwork, posters, rock videos, cake, and German Club t-shirt competitions are also held. Music and skit competitions round out the day.
When students are not competing, they attend seminars. In the past, seminars have included cooking demonstrations, singing, folk dancing, videos, foreign exchange students, internet demonstrations.
German convention is an annual event that is a great experience for all German students. For results and pictures, check http://members.cox.net/aatgnebraska and go to the NASG page.
