Another way to get away from the Las Vegas summer heat is to head to the ocean. So we took a weekend in Laguna Beach, California. You can partake in a number of things in Laguna, even if you don't surf. The endless number of shops was fascinating. They all had interesting things in them, whether it was tourist trash or art. The food there was great. The breakfast we had was at a shiny diner made to look like the east coast rail car diners. The placed was crammed full of locals. Dinner was very good as well. Fresh seafood.
Our other main activities all revolved around the beach. We spent some time just sitting on the beach, watching the world go by. It went by slowly, except for when a LA to San Diego train went by. It looked like everything else was going in slow motion. We also walked the beach for a while. Our goal was the rocks at the end of the beach where we could go tide pooling. There were plenty of starfish and snails. The ocean itself was filled with pelicans. We went to the base of Laguna Falls, a moss covered drip that, technically, is a waterfall. The volume of the falls is like 2 gallons a minute, so it isn't really a threat to Niagra Falls as an attraction.
This was a nice, slow and cool (by Las Vegas standards) weekend. The most hectic parts of it were the drives too and from Laguna Beach.
