Your Photo Session:

First of all, please arrive on time for your session and come prepared. The following list will help you prepare for your photo shoot. It  will be a fun, enjoyable experience and you will have great photos to enjoy for years to come.

Clothing:

Ultimately the style and choice of clothing is up to you, but here are a few tips to help you select the outfits that look best in a portrait. Solid colors photograph the best! Stripes and plaids are not recommended unless they have a very small pattern. Avoid clothing that has wording on it except for your own school/company logo. Also bring a variety of color and styles.

Vary the dress level, bring some dressy, some medium and some casual. It is best to arrange your outfits in groups on hangers; and don't forget to bring casual and dress shoes. Some shots are close up, others are full length. Plan outfits completely.

Remember, it is best to do a few outfits that everyone will like, then we can do the "Unique" stuff you like.

Hair:

You should wear your hair in your regular style. Guys should not have a fresh haircut, if you need a trim have it done about a week before. Girls, same goes for you on the cut, color and perm.

Glasses:

Most glasses glare! Some prescriptions more than others. Your best bet is to check with your optometrist. Most will "loan" you an empty set of frames similar to yours for your photo session.

Jewelry:

Keep it simple. We want the attention on you. If you have different jewelry for different outfits, you might put each set of jewelry in a plastic baggie and hang it on the hangar with that outfit.

Tan / Sunburn:

Avoid sunburns! Sunburns do not photograph well!! A tan is ok.

Complexion:

We retouch blemishes, so don't worry about minor breakouts or scars, most will not show in the portrait anyway.

Props:

Props can help to show your personality and record the types of activities you are involved in. Be sure to bring some of your own props to your portrait session. Here are some ideas: Musical Instrument, Leather Jacket, Uniform, Hats, Sports Equipment, Stuffed Animals, Sunglasses, etc...

Family, Friends, Pets:

Friends or parents are welcome. They can be a help. You can have a couple of shots with a boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, sibling or family member at no extra charge.

Pets are also welcome as long as they are well behaved and don't distract from your photo session.

Final tips:

Simplicity is the key to a successful portrait.
Long sleeve dresses and shirts are recommended.
Coordinate your outfit from head to toe.
Darker clothes minimize body size.
Keep the tonal range of clothing in the same group, don't mix lights & darks in the same outfit.
To assure a successful portrait, it is best to bring along several additional clothing choices.
Don't forget to bring your jewelry, especially your class ring.
Get a good night's rest, relax and be ready for a great portrait session!
