FUTURAMA COMICS #5
TITLE
Who's Dying to be A Gazillionaire?
STORY SYNOPSIS
The Planet Express delivery service is in trouble and Fry decides to
go on the new game show 'Who Wants to be A Gazillionaire?' Only one problem
though, answer a question over a million dollars incorrectly and be put
to death by host Morbo! Leela decides to go with Fry and be his answer
buddy but is no use when the million dollar question is asked. Only Scruffy
the janitor technician can save them now!
The cover of this issue was kind of fun with the guess what is wrong
with this picture game. Of course my favorite is the Nibblerhouse image
that I have taken and used throughout this site as my mascot. Millhouse
is my favorite Simpsons character and it was great to see him incorporated
into the world of Futurama!
A word about the letter column this issue. This issue contains a letter
from none other than Jon Jr. aka bart182 aka webmaster of the Futurama
Merchandise Page. Way to go Jon! |

Xmas Time is Fear
STORY SYNOPSIS
It's Xmas time again and this year the Robot Santa has enlisted some
extra help in the form of one Robot Devil! The plan is to let everyone
know that this year the Robot Santa has been reprogrammed for good and
will be giving out presents instead of his usual killing spree. All 'good'
people are to gather in Central Park for their 'gifts' this year from the
Robot Santa. What they don't know is that the Robot Santa has not been
reprogrammed and he is the same as Xmas past. Behind this evil plot is
the President of the World: the head of Richard Nixon. Fry, Leela and Bender
make an attempt to stop the plan before Xmas but are captured in the process.
After learning they have been double crossed the Robot Santa and
Robot Devil fight it out thus letting Fry, Leela and Bender to escape.
A second story in this issue features the HG Blob and a trip to the
movies.
With this issue Bongo Comics announced that they are no longer running
their 'Win a Signed Comic' contest. They will still print fan art and letters
but the winners will no longer recieve a signed comic. They will recieve
a free comic just not signed. |

TITLE
New Year's Rockin' Evil
STORY SYNOPSIS
Welcome to rockin' New Year's Eve year 3000 style. While waiting for
a specially made ball to drop at Times Square in New New York the power
goes out. Go figure since it was the Professor who designed the ball and
it has sucked all the energy from the surrounding area. While they wait
they decide to ask the What If... machine a few questions. How does that
work with no power? Baterries my boy, batteries.
Bender wants to know what would have happened had he traveled to the
year 1999. Thru the course of the story we learn that Fry has written a
story about life in the year 1999 that is usefull in the future. The world
has been overrun with robots and humans are forced to live underground
until Fry arrives and leads a rebelion against the robots. With the help
of his story written 1000 years ago people are able to understand what
life was like then. Fry's story becomes a doctrine for the new world order.
Bender as it turns out, has been sent from the future to ensure that Fry
makes it to the future and more importantly that his story survives to
become the important paper that it is.
Another robot has been sent to the past as well - the Leelanator! Leela
is a much more advanced robot who can shape shift into anything she wants.
She has been sent to the past to find Fry and ensure that his story does
not survive to the year 3000. A battle ensues between the Bendinator and
the Leelanator and all of mankind hangs in the balance.
As an added bonus we get a second story. A little two page story involving
the creation of the world's most expensive alarm clock!
Great cover on this issue although I felt the artwork inside was a
little weak. Not up to the same standards as some of the previous issues.
The two page story featuring Farssworth was much better. The main story
was a fun parody on the Terminator movies and promises to be the first
of three Anthology of Interest type stories that I would guess will follow
movie type themes. The next will be a parody of the X-men! Stay Tuned!

TITLE
Planet X-Press Men
STORY SYNOPSIS
Where to start with this issue. From the beginning is as good as place
as any other I guess. We come into this story at the half way point basically.
A robot with claws and made of titasteelorium (or something like that)
appears at the doorstep of the Planet X-Press Men with no recollection
of who he is or where he has come from. Through analysis of his body it
is determined that he comes from MOM Corp and their evil leader Momneato!
Although the others quickly accept Benderine into their circle Uniclops
(Leela) is hesitant and resists. When the Planet X-Press Men are to recieve
an award from the mayor of New New York the Professor feels that this would
be an excellent oppurtinuty to introduce their newest member to the
world. Something goes wrong and a switch inside Benderine is turned on
and his true purpose is realized. He is an agent of Momneato and she comes
in to do battle with X-Press Men. All seems lost and without hope when
suddenly Fry is awakened in the Planet Express ship. He had been knocked
on the head when a band of space pirates boarded the ship and had dreamed
the whole thing. Distaught over not having super powers and pleads with
the others to find it in themselves their hidden special abilities to overcome
their aggressors. Through some creative thinking each finds their special
powers and the space pirates are defeated.
Really fun issue and certainly more cool than what I could describe
here. There are so many cool little things about this that you have to
see to believe. The Planet Express crew as the Planet X-Press Men was great!
I loved seeing them all as super heroes or in the case of Mom as a super
villain. Great character selection and it is always fun when the story
revolves or involves the entire cast.
As an added special bonus for me one of my fan art pictures that I
had sent to Futurama Comics was printed in their letters page. I had completely
forgotten that I had sent it in to them and was pleasantly surprised while
waiting in line to pay and I flipped thru the issue and saw my picture
there. For those who have not bought this issue it is a picture of a 3
dimensional Bender that I did and that can be seen on my fan
art page. Also included is Alien Language I completely deciphered and
for use in a very crazy word search game. Guaranteed to give you a headache.
