FUTURAMA COMICS #9
Futurama Comics 9
TITLE
Freaky Fry-Day
STORY SYNOPSIS
For great nephew day, Fry decides to buy matching necklaces for himself and Professor Farnsworth to celebrate. What Fry does not know is that the amulets contain special powers which transfers both of them into each others bodies. Fry now inhabits Farnsworth's body and vice versa. Realizing what an oppurtunity this is Farnsworth sets out doing all the things he wishes he could do if he were still young. Activities included dancing all night and finally getting the last laugh with his arch-enemy - Wernstrom!
Fry meanwhile can't get anybody to believe that he is really Fry but trapped inside Farnsworth's body. Thinking he has flipped his lid the Planet Express crew have him commited. Farnsworth goes on a wild spree while being trapped in Fry's body and does all the things he could when he was much, much younger.Things are going great for Farnsworth when he starts to feel a little guitly and that it would be better if he just told the truth and had he and Fry switched back to their respective bodies (after all Fry as Farnsworth is about to be lobotomized for being crazy) whe he is kidnapped at the Hip Joint. He awakes to confront his kidnapper who is none other than Ogden Wernstrom. He has gotten the help of some of his teacher's aides to teach this young whipper snapper a lesson about messing with old people. Bender uses his Fry-jack system to locate Farnsworth in Fry's body and save the day from Wernstrom and his fierce fighting team.
Over all a pretty fun issue. I liked the swith-a-roo between Fry and Farnsworth and the art was pretty good all things considered. This is also the last in a three run issue of Anthology of Interest type stories in Futurama Comics. While I liked the longer format for each story I would prefer an annual type issue similar to Simpsons Comics Treehouse of Horror comics and leave regular stories for the monthly fun and excitement.

TITLE
The Cure for the Common Clod
STORY SYNOPSIS
Patrick Verrone from the television series guest writes this episode and it is a trend that I hope to see continue in the future. This is one of the best issues yet and actually plays out more like the TV series than past issues and from what I have been hearing there is a very good reason why. It appears that this issue was an undeveloped idea for the show and so it made it into the comics. I hope that in the future more Futurama writers are asked to contribute to the comics as it is a good way to carry on themes from the show.
While delivering a package Fry develops a cold that quickly infects the rest of the Planet Express crew. This would not be a problem except tha tthe cure for the common cold no longer exists because the common cold has been wiped out by the year 3000. This cold is different than most in that it releases the inhibitions of the person who contracts except for Fry whose immune system can deal with it since he comes from our time.
The city goes crazy as person after person contracts the cold and spreads it. New New Yorkers are at least able to get rid of the cold by sneezing it out but all the exhalent globules form into one gigantic mucuus germ that threatens to do more damage than the original cold. The only one who doesn't seem to sneeze the same malignant germ is Leela. Because of her mutant status the germ is also mutated and basically an antithesis to the malignant one. Needing to create a large enough muccus globule to combat the first one requires many mutants all sneezing at the same time and the best place to find a bunch of mutants is down in the sewer. So down they go to infect as many of the mutants as possible so they will all sneeze out the anti-germ. It works and the anti-germ combines with the original germ and they both cancel each other out and saving the city.
Like I already mentioned this has to be the best issue of Futurama Comics to date. Superb from start to finish as the story was fun and the art was great. It will remain to be seen wether or not more Futurama writers will follow Patrick Verrone's lead and scribe an issue or two of Futurama Comics and I certainly hope that they do.

TITLE
Sideshow Fry
STORY SYNOPSIS
While making a delivery to the Zglmorg Bros. and Bornug & Bailbot Circus the gang decides to stay and see the circus. Bender gets jealous of the main attraction - the Unhuman Cannonball as he feels that this is the robot Dewey who years earlier had sabatoged Bender's dream of becoming famous. He sets out for revenge by taking his place in the circus and finally getting the recognition that he deserves.
Fry and Zoidberg meanwhile are kidnapped by the circus and held as part of their circus freaks show. Zoidberg because he is, well, Zoidberg and Fry because of his outie belly button which in the future no longer exist. That is how all the freaks in the show have been acquired but nobody wants to leave because they treat them so good. Fry is conflicted about leaving as he has fallen in love with the bearded lady but he wants to be back home with his friends.
Leela concocts a scheme to break out Fry and Zoidberg but when she gets there they do not want to escape. Katie, the bearded lady, tells Fry that he does not love him and doesn't want to be with him basically forcing Fry to leave the circus with Leela. Bender as the Unhuman Cannonball, distracts the security allowing them to escape to their ship. Katie helps along the way and all are safe on their way back home until next issue.
A little bit of a letdown in this issue from the previous one but this was an OK story but the art was a little weak. The comics, while looking like the characters from the show, have their own distinct look to them and in this issue they had more of a show feel to them. I do not know how best to describe it beyond that but it is what I think. Still a decent issue but not up to what I was expecting.
