FUTURAMA COMICS #1
TITLE
Monkey Sea, Monkey Doom!
STORY SYNOPSIS
Not much different from its US counterpart
but the UK versions of Futurama Comics does come in a larger format as
well as some other key differences. For a synopsis of this issue please
see the review of this already done for the US version.
As I mentioned before the UK versions come in a larger format. Much
closer to the size of a US magazine than a standard comic book. I like
the larger format as well as the better quality paper used in printing
this. This issue also comes with a nice oversized poster of the cover image
and I hope Titan continues with this tradition in the future. There have
been some really nice covers done for Futurama Comics and I would love
to see them hanging on my wall. One thing that is missing here versus the
US version is that the US version had a little pin-up on the back cover
of all the rest of the Planet Express crew with jet packs on. The UK version
has included a pin-up of Bender that was taken from that artwork but none
of the other characters are reprinted here.
Like in the US, the UK version will be printed bi-monthly but will
not suffer the same fate as the US version in regards to delays. As of
this writing Futurama Comics 10 is scheduled to come out this week so that
makes 10 issues that are ready to go the printers. On top of that the Crossover
special will also be reprinted in Futurama Comics so that makes a grand
total of 12 issues that are waiting in the wings. One good bi-product to
all of this may be that Futurama Comics will be pushed to going monthly
or at the very least force Bongo Comics to produce this on a regular basis
even if it is still only every other month. According to Bill Morrison
Simpsons Comics were partly pushed to monthly status due to the UK printing
them on a monthly basis and so they ate up many of the reserve issues quickly
and thereby forcing Bongo Comics hand in the matter. Lets hope Futurama
Comics will follow suit.. |
FUTURAMA COMICS #2
TITLE
...But Deliver Us to Evil!
STORY SYNOPSIS
Again, not much different than its US counterpart for this issue but
again I have to comment that I like the large format and all the extra
cover graphics. No poster with this issue but that is OK and they cropped
the cover image from what was originally printed in the US version which
can be seen here. Again this month
and it looks like practically every month there is some form of giveaway
being offered. With the first issue it was for a wind-up
Bender from RocketUSA and this month it is for the Region 2 DVD's of
Season 2. I like the fact that Titan is taking the time to offer these
types of giveaways and wish Bongo Comics would do so again.
Anyways, not much to talk about here as it is basically a reprint of
the US second issue but in larger format. One thing that is different which
I enjoy is the letters page as we get to hear a little more from Futurama
Comics fans from across the pond - that is the UK to you and me. |
