CROSSOVER CRISIS - PREVIEW ![]() I have created this extra page specifically for this event and it promises to be a good one! I know I keep saying that but you will see what I mean when you get this issue. Look here for reviews of both issues as they hit newstands. The first issue is scheduled to hit comic book stores next week (August 21st). CROSSOVER CRISIS 1 OF 2 ![]() Somewhere Over the Brain-Bow! STORY SYNOPSIS The eagle has landed. The historic first issue of two worlds colliding is here! The Futurama/Simpsons Crossover special bringing both worlds together for the first time. The story is simple enough. The Brain Spawn have returned and in order to conquer Earth they must first get rid of their arch-enemy - Fry! While delivering a package of precious collectible comic books to the planet Nerdanus XII, the Living Panet, the Planet Express crew is attacked by the Brain Spawn. Fry and Nibbler do their best to defeat the Brain Spawn but they trap them in a Simpsons comic book that Fry had been reading. After trapping them in the comic book the Brain Spawn seal it in liquid diamond to never be seen nor heard from again thus leaving Earth unprotected and vulnerable to the Brain Spawns power. While in the world of Springfield the Planet Express crew immediately begin to interact with the citizens of Springfield. Everybody except for Fry are unaware of what is happening to them. They think the world of Springfield is real and so begin to interact with everybody as if nothing is wrong. Fry and Nibbler on the other hand know exactly what is going on and begin to look for ways to free themselves. Even though they are probably the only ones who can save everybody from the world of Springfield both Nibbler and Fry soon find themselves trapped in situations that they cannot get out of. First Fry is trapped at Springfield Elementary and next, while making Marge believe that he is a baby and not an alien, Nibbler succumbs to his one weakness - milk. The story ends on this cliffhanger note and we are left until the next issue of the crossover to see what will happen to the crew of the Planet Express and will they make it out in time to save Earth. This first issue was really just a set-up for the action that is to come in the next one I think. There is some really good stuff here but I have a feeling that the real action will take place in part 2. It was nice to see so many characters integrated into the story here for not only Futurama but for the Simpsons as well. Sure not everybody has a major part in the overall story but at least they have made some type of appearance and it all fits in well with the story. The promise is that if your favorite character wasn't here don't fret because Ian Boothby has stated that pretty much everyone is going to be in this one! Does that mean Kang and Kodos are not far off from making an appearance? Or that this may well be an historic meeting between the Omicronians and Kang and Kodos? Not sure how they would be worked into the story if they do but I wouldn't put it past Ian to get them in there. After all he was the mastermind behind this whole epic. Stay tuned as the final chapter arrives in December. Yes you heard right December. Not sure why it is so far off but at least according to Diamond Comics Distributor Futurama Comics 10 will be hitting stores in November to calm any shakes you might have between now and then.
CROSSOVER CRISIS II 1 OF 2 ![]() Slaves of New New York! STORY SYNOPSIS They said it couldn't be done and they did it! They said it couldn't be done again and they did it again. Bongo Comics reunites the worlds of Futurama and the Simpsons with the second Crossover aptly titled: The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II. This series will run 2 issues similar to the first Crossover but unlike the first time around this time the action takes place in New New York. While the story looks like it picks up from where the first Crossover (C1) left off it would appear that the story does not necessarily support this. It turns out that while at an inventor's convention Farnsworth invents a device that will bring fictional character from literature and make them real living beings and tries it out on Simpsons Comics 87 (where the action of C1 took place) and suddenly the world of Springfield is alive and well in the year 3005. The question of practicality arises and of course thanks to Farnsworth everybody becomes slaves. The Simpsons themselves, however figure out that to save themselves they might be able to find shelter at the Planet Express building where they don't get sold into slavery but instead are hired at no pay by Hermes. They assist Fry, Leela and Bender on some missions while other characters such as Fat Tony and the other mob figures find work with the Robot Mafia, Apu finds work at the 7-11, Moe finds work at a bar and Burns goes to work for Mom running one of the divisions of her giant empire. I won't mention what happens to the other cast of Springfield but let's just say they are Zapped. When Bart breaks the device to realize fictional characters Bender tried to help by hiding the device in the only place where people cannot get to it - the Library!! The scissors go wild and release every major fictional character ever written on New New York. I did enjoy this issue and part of the reason is that the story takes place in New New York and is more familiar to the Futurama universe than the Simpsons universe. There are plenty of great gags and the stuff where the Simpsons accompany the Planet Express crew on deliveries is classic parody. I can't wait for the second part to come out to see the exciting conclusion as Ian Boothby and James Lloyd have delivered a fitting first part to their first masterpiece. I wonder though if we will see the release of the Simpsons Comics mentioned in this story like we saw with issue 87 of Simpsons Comics and will that be included in the forthcoming trade paperback? I guess at this point only Ian Boothby and his hairdresser know for sure and they are not telling. |
