FUTURAMA/SIMPSONS INFINITELY SECRET
CROSSOVER CRISIS - PREVIEW
Futurama/Simpsons Crossover
Coming this Summer the crossover event to end all crossover events! The gang from the future meets the citizens of Springfield! That is right, Bongo Comics, the creators of both Simpsons Comics and Futurama Comics are bringing both worlds together in a super colossal crossover! It is scheduled to be a two-parter and is being created by Simpsons scribe Ian Boothby and Futurama penciller James Lloyd. I have seen pages of this comic at the San Diego Comic Con and they look outstanding with great jokes on each page. The only problem with this special is that Futurama Comics will be on hiatus until after this monumentive crossover but will return full force by Christmas!
I have created this extra page specifically for this event and it promises to be a good one! I know I keep saying that but you will see what I mean when you get this issue. Look here for reviews of both issues as they hit newstands. The first issue is scheduled to hit comic book stores next week (August 21st).

FUTURAMA/SIMPSONS INFINITELY SECRET
CROSSOVER CRISIS 1 OF 2
Futurama/Simpsons Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis
TITLE
Somewhere Over the Brain-Bow!
STORY SYNOPSIS
The eagle has landed. The historic first issue of two worlds colliding is here! The Futurama/Simpsons Crossover special bringing both worlds together for the first time. The story is simple enough. The Brain Spawn have returned and in order to conquer Earth they must first get rid of their arch-enemy - Fry!
While delivering a package of precious collectible comic books to the planet Nerdanus XII, the Living Panet, the Planet Express crew is attacked by the Brain Spawn. Fry and Nibbler do their best to defeat the Brain Spawn but they trap them in a Simpsons comic book that Fry had been reading. After trapping them in the comic book the Brain Spawn seal it in liquid diamond to never be seen nor heard from again thus leaving Earth unprotected and vulnerable to the Brain Spawns power.
While in the world of Springfield the Planet Express crew immediately begin to interact with the citizens of Springfield. Everybody except for Fry are unaware of what is happening to them. They think the world of Springfield is real and so begin to interact with everybody as if nothing is wrong. Fry and Nibbler on the other hand know exactly what is going on and begin to look for ways to free themselves. Even though they are probably the only ones who can save everybody from the world of Springfield both Nibbler and Fry soon find themselves trapped in situations that they cannot get out of. First Fry is trapped at Springfield Elementary and next, while making Marge believe that he is a baby and not an alien, Nibbler succumbs to his one weakness - milk. The story ends on this cliffhanger note and we are left until the next issue of the crossover to see what will happen to the crew of the Planet Express and will they make it out in time to save Earth.
This first issue was really just a set-up for the action that is to come in the next one I think. There is some really good stuff here but I have a feeling that the real action will take place in part 2. It was nice to see so many characters integrated into the story here for not only Futurama but for the Simpsons as well. Sure not everybody has a major part in the overall story but at least they have made some type of appearance and it all fits in well with the story. The promise is that if your favorite character wasn't here don't fret because Ian Boothby has stated that pretty much everyone is going to be in this one! Does that mean Kang and Kodos are not far off from making an appearance? Or that this may well be an historic meeting between the Omicronians and Kang and Kodos? Not sure how they would be worked into the story if they do but I wouldn't put it past Ian to get them in there. After all he was the mastermind behind this whole epic. Stay tuned as the final chapter arrives in December. Yes you heard right December. Not sure why it is so far off but at least according to Diamond Comics Distributor Futurama Comics 10 will be hitting stores in November to calm any shakes you might have between now and then.

When last we left our stalwart employess of Planet Express they were all in trouble and in danger of remaining in the world of Springfield. Fry was locked in Springfield Elementary, Nibbler was 'drugged' up and staying with Marge who thought he was a baby, Bender was getting 'happy' with Homer and the regular barflies at Moe's, Farnsworth had been committed to an old folks home and Leela had befriended Lisa Simpson.Things were looking pretty grim until...
While in the old folks home Professor Frink overhears Farnsworth talking about some science stuff and concludes he must be a genius and so decides to have him released into his custody for awhile, Fry is freed the next day when school comes back in session, Hermes and Zoidberg are broken from their stupor thanks to Hermes' hatred of Zoidberg, Nibbler finally comes out of the effects of the milk he drank and mind melds with everyone else to let them know what is going on and that they need to find a way out of the comic book.

Hail to the Cat!!
TITLE
Hail to the Cat
STORY SYNOPSIS
What you might ask is a Simpsons Comics review doing on a Futurama site? Well, the answer is simple - this issue will and does tie in with Futurama Comics. In the first Crossover Fry was reading an issue of Simpsons Comics and that issue is the issue that the Planet Express crew were put into by the Brain Slugs in the first part. The story revolved around Snowball II being elected Mayor of Springfield. Since Futurama is real it would preclude that this issue had to see print and Bongo Comics has proven that history is predetermined and printed it right on schedule. The other way this story will relate to Futurama Comics is that at some point in the future the first Crossover, Simpsons Comics 87 and the future second Crossover will all be printed in a trade paperback! For more information see the Bongo Comics panel report from the 2003 San Diego Comic Con.
Ian Boothby is writing all these stories as well as art is hopefully being provided by James Lloyd. He has already done the first Crossover and he also did this issue of Simpsons Comics. He is also slated to do the second Crossover as well but we shall see where that ends up.
So how does Snowball II become Mayor of Springfield? It all starts with an experiement by Lisa on the effects of advertising in politics. For her school experiement she uses both Snowball II and Santa's Little Helper as her two candidates and produces two smear campaign commercials to her classroom and then asks them to vote on which candidate they would vote for. The experiement does not end with just campaign commercials but with fliers up around  Springfield Elementary. The unfortunate thing is that she gives the fliers to Ralph to hang up who gets sidetracked and posts the ads all over the town of Springfield rather than just at the school.
Meanwhile, around town things are going from bad to worse as there is not enough money in the City budget to take care of adequate police patrol as well as other standard City functions. The culprit? Mayor Quimby who is taking kick backs upon kick backs at the expense of the citizens of Springfield. This does not sit well with the town and when they see ads to elect Snowball II they jump at the chance to get Quimby out of office. The votes are in and the new Mayor of Springfield is: Snowball II!!
Lisa sees this as an oppurtunity to do some good around Springfield seeing as she is the only one who can 'communicate' with Snowball II. She makes executive decisions to increase library hours and provide more comfortable chairs in the reading room but when she finds out that as Mayor, Snowball II gets to repeal one of the constitutional laws she sees it as a way of banning all firearms. Afterall, she reasons, the main reason that it is in the constitution was because of fear of Britain. She quickly does away with the law and firearms are no longer allowed in the town of Springfield at which time Britain immediately invades and takes over the defenseless city. Springfield tries to put up some resistance with the help of their former leader Fred Quimby but they are no match for Britain. That is until they use the one weapon that Britain cannot compete with.
I typically don't read Simpsons Comics as often as I read Futurama Comics even though I collect them on a regular basis but this was a fun issue. Ian always does some fun stories and considering he is the usual writer for the series I may read a few more back issues. James Lloyd who also used to do Simpsons Comics on a regular basis once again provides some fine art and I am glad that we have him on Futurama Comics. If you are not a regular reader of the series it might be worth picking this one up if nothing else for the kitsch factor of this having appeared in  the Crossover. Speaking of the appearance in the Crossover if you want to just see the pages that were included in the Crossover hop on over to page 14, then check your first issue of the Crossover.

SIMPSONS/FUTURAMA INFINITELY SECRET
CROSSOVER CRISIS II 1 OF 2
Simpsons/Futurama Infinitely Secret Crossover Crisis II
TITLE
Slaves of New New York!
STORY SYNOPSIS
They said it couldn't be done and they did it! They said it couldn't be done again and they did it again. Bongo Comics reunites the worlds of Futurama and the Simpsons with the second Crossover aptly titled: The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II. This series will run 2 issues similar to the first Crossover but unlike the first time around this time the action takes place in New New York.
While the story looks like it picks up from where the first Crossover (C1) left off it would appear that the story does not necessarily support this. It turns out that while at an inventor's convention Farnsworth invents a device that will bring fictional character from literature and make them real living beings and tries it out on Simpsons Comics 87 (where the action of C1 took place) and suddenly the world of Springfield is alive and well in the year 3005. The question of practicality arises and of course thanks to Farnsworth everybody becomes slaves. The Simpsons themselves, however figure out that to save themselves they might be able to find shelter at the Planet Express building where they don't get sold into slavery but instead are hired at no pay by Hermes. They assist Fry, Leela and Bender on some missions while other characters such as Fat Tony and the other mob figures find work with the Robot Mafia, Apu finds work at the 7-11, Moe finds work at a bar and Burns goes to work for Mom running one of the divisions of her giant empire. I won't mention what happens to the other cast of Springfield but let's just say they are Zapped.
When Bart breaks the device to realize fictional characters Bender tried to help by hiding the device in the only place where people cannot get to it - the Library!! The scissors go wild and release every major fictional character ever written on New New York.
I did enjoy this issue and part of the reason is that the story takes place in New New York and is more familiar to the Futurama universe than the Simpsons universe. There are plenty of great gags and the stuff where the Simpsons accompany the Planet Express crew on deliveries is classic parody. I can't wait for the second part to come out to see the exciting conclusion as Ian Boothby and James Lloyd have delivered a fitting first part to their first masterpiece. I wonder though if we will see the release of the Simpsons Comics mentioned in this story like we saw with issue 87 of Simpsons Comics and will that be included in the forthcoming trade paperback? I guess at this point only Ian Boothby and his hairdresser know for sure and they are not telling.
