IN COLOR
The first episode of this series that introduces us to the main characters
of Futurama: Fry, Leela and Bender. After accidentally falling into a cryogenic
chamber and being frozen for 1000 years, Fry wakes up to a whole new world.
Along the way he meets up with a certain robot by the name of Bender as
he tries to escape his career implantation assignment from Leela. Great
moment at the end of this episode where all three make the conscious decision
to alter their own fate and choose their own path thus proving you don't
gotta do what you gotta do.
Lots of fun moments in this episode like when Larry welcomes Fry to
the future. Fry's first trip on the boom tube, meeting up with Bender in
the Suicide Booth and Leonard Nimoy being fed like a goldfish in the Head
Museum. After tracking down his great, great, great, great,... you get the
idea, nephew Professor Farnsworth, Fry, Leela and Bender take up employment
as the delivery crew for the Planet Express Delivery Service. Oh, well
some things never change. |

IN HYPNO-VISION
I think this was the first episode of Futurama that I saw and the thing
that sticks out in my mind the most is Bender's line about hookers and
blackjack - well forget the blackjack!
This episode basically introduces the rest of the Futurama cast which
includes Amy, Hermes and Dr. Zoidberg who gives Fry a very unusual exam.
The crew makes a delivery to the Moon which is now an amusement park
and not the romantic vision that Fry had once held so dearly from his own
time.
This episode is also the first time that Fry and Leela 'share a moment'
together as they gaze out at the Earth. Although not a full fledge song,
this episode did have one little jingle
in it that can be found in th songs section. |

As Seen on TV
Tired of having Fry mooch off the Planet Express delivery service he gets
booted out on the street to find his own place to live. Fry decides to
move in with Bender and the hilarious hi-jinks ensue. Later they get a
bigger apartment together but have to separate because Bender's antennae
is interfering with the buildings reception. So that means in the year
3000 there is no more cable. Bender gets blind, stinkin' un-drunk and cuts
his antennae off. After realizing their friendship is more important than
anything Bender and Fry decide to make a go of living together again.
Funny moments include Bender talking in his sleep ('Hey sexy momma.
Wanna kill all humans?'), Fry coming to work with a kink in his neck because
Bender installed carpet, the un-drunkedness of Bender and finding out what
is really inside Benders closet. For some reason I also found Amy slipping
and falling down twice funny. |

Presented in BC (Brain Control) Where

On a mission to Vergon 6 to collect two of every animal before the planet
implodes, the Planet Express team encounters legendary space captain Zapp
Brannigan. They will soon find out that his reputation far outweighs the
reality. This is also the first episode with Kif Kroker - Zapp's dedicated,
forever suffering sidekick. Looking back on this episode you can really
tell the changes in Kiff's character. He was a little more mean spirited
here (calling Zapp 'the fatso'). After sleeping with Zapp, Leela and the
others escape to Vergon 6 to rescue the animals there, however, they pick
up one little creature who wasn't on the list: Nibbler. Upon trying to
leave Vergon 6 it is discovered that the ship is out of fuel and they will
have to ask for Zapp's help but Nibbler saves the day with a surprise of
his own.
Funny moments in this episode are almost all of Zapp Brannigans scenes.
Leela asking Bender why he didn't refuel the space ship ('I'll do it when
we get back') and Nibbler's little surprise. |
FEAR OF A BOT PLANET
Writer: Matt
Groening/David X. Cohen
Director:
Production Code: 1ACV02
Original Air Date: |
 |
Featuring Gratuitous Alien Nudity
A planet without any inhabitants! Blurn's Ball and doing the robot! A planet
inhabited by only robots and who kill humans on sight has a special delivery
package that needs to be delivered. Bender is sent down to the planet surface
to deliver the package and is taken prisoner when the robot inhabitants
learn that he works with humans. Dressed as robots Fry and Leela descend
down to the planet and attempt rescue but are soon discovered to be humans.
They are tried and found guilty of being humans and sentenced to doing
repetitive tasks until they are no longer useful at which time they will
be donated to an elementary school. Bender is charged with having to kill
his friends by the Secret Robot Council but he cannot do it and he escapes
along with Fry and Leela.
Funny moments include doing the robot, the Invasion of the Body Snatchers
parody, Fry and Leela's costumes ('We should have gotten store bought costumes.')
and the questions posed to Fry and Leela before entering Robot City is
pretty funny as well. |
A FISHFULL OF DOLLARS

What would you do with gazillion dollars? Fry gets to find out as the .93
cents he left in his bank account in the 20th century has been accruing
interest for the last 1000 years and now he is one of the richest men in
New New York. He immediately goes on a spending spree buying up all kinds
of 20th century memoribilia like Ted Danson's skeleton and the last can
of anchovies on the face of the Earth to treat his friends to an anchovie
pizza. Mom of Mom's Old Fashioned Robot Oil is after the can as well but
for different reasons. The oil from the anchovies can lubricate a robot
for a lifetime and thus making her product obsolete. Fry recluses into
a life where things are more important than friends after which Mom tricks
Fry and steals all of his money hoping that he will sell the can of anchovies
to her. Instead, Fry realizes that the people he cares about are what is
most important and 'treats' them to an anchovie pizza party.
One of the funniest moments in this episode is when Leela and Bender
try to convince Fry to get out of his apartment and spend time with his
friends and not his things. Fry tells them that this is what he really
needs in life - things and not friends to which Bender sheepishly replies:
I'm a thing. Fry listenting to 'classical' music and Mom and her three
henchmen were also funny. |
MY THREE SUNS
Writer: Matt

Presented in Double Vision (Where Drunk)
One word needed here: 'Goin' thru the bot wash! Bot wash yeah!' Bender
becomes the Planet Express chef - BAM! After creating a dish that is 10%
within a lethal dose of salt, Fry delivers a package to the planet Trisol
in the Forbidden Zone, a planet with 3 suns. Upon arriving in the royal
palace parched and dehydrated, Fry takes a long sip from a cool glass of
water sitting on the throne. What he doesn't realize is that Trisol is
inhabited by a race of water people and he has just drunk the Emperor!
The people of Trisol thinking their Emperor dead proclaim Fry the new Emperor.
At his coranation it is revealed that the Emperor is still alive inside
of Fry's body. The inhabitants of Trisol look to kill Fry and juice the
Emperor out him but a more devious, despicable plan is concoted to get
the Emperor out by Leela. Will Fry survive the cure?
This is actually a really great episode. It starts with the hilarious
scene of Bender going thru the bot wash in which he gets to the end and
it immediately starts to rain. The Elezar scenes are great as well - BAM!
Spice weasal - BAM! The animation was really well done in this episode
as well. Leela usually looks different and wierd on alot of episodes but
this she is rendered really good and here fight scenes are great as well. |
A BIG PIECE OF GARBAGE

Mr. Bender's Wardrobe by Robotany 500
A big piece of garbage launched in the 21st century is on a collison course
with New New York that would destroy it. Thanks to Prof. Farnsworth's new
invention - the smelloscope - they are able to pick up the giant piece
of refuse in time to send an away team on a suicide mission to implant
a doomsday device on the ball of garbage and blow it out of the universe!
Too bad for Fry, Leela and Bender that Farnsworth had the clock upside
down when setting the time on it giving them no time to escape before the
bomb goes off. Bender takes care of the bomb by putting it in his cabinet
as it explodes thus saving their lives but endangering New New York. Once
back on Earth, Fry uses a bit of 20th century ingenuity to convine the
people of New New York to create another ball of garbage to interecept
the bigger ball of garbage. Waste is something new to the 31st century
but they pick up the concept quickly and eliminate the threat.
Lots of good moments in this episode. Bender picking up a Bart Simpson
doll pulls the string to hear Bart's catch phrase line: 'Eat my shorts!'
At which point Bender removes the shorts, eats them and says: 'Mmmmm...
shorts.' The rivalry between Farnsworth and Wormstrem is prett funny as
well. |

Condemned by the Space Pope
Bender with an addictive personality? The hell you say! Bender gets addicted
to jacking on with electricity, hits rock bottom and then becomes a member
of the Temple of Robotolgy. Everyone at Planet Express gets fed up with
the new, nice Bender and trick him into changing back to his old ways.
Unfortunately, this means a trip to Robot Hell and a song and dance number
with the Robot Devil! Fry and Leela track Bender down in Robot Hell which
is actually an old abondoned amusement park and challenge the Robot Devil
to a duel. Will Bender get a fiddle made of gold or will the Robot Devil
get his soul?
This is Futurama's first foray into a musical
show and I kind of liked it. For the most part it was done well. The
Beastie Boys are featured in the beginning of the episode and start it
off with a musical number after which Dan Castellanata lends his vocal
talents to that of the Robot Devil to close the show out with a musical
number of his own. |
