Touch Eyeballs to Screen
for Cheap Laser Surgery
Bender and Fry join the military in hopes of getting military discounts
on gum and other essential items when suddingly war breaks out. Soon they
are training to go off to some foreign planet and defend Earth from an
unseen menace. Leela tries to join but is turned down by military captain
Zapp Brannigan who cannot have women in the army because they are too distracting.
During training a new recruit by the name of Lee Lemon shows up and
is a top notch recruit. Zapp finds himself eerily attracted to this new
recruit although cannot figure out why. On the planet Sphereon 6 Earth's
military might comes face to face with their adversary - huge bouncing
balls. In battle Fry's company is cornered and it is up to him to save
the company, he cannot do it but Bender can. He throws his body on a large
bomb and becomes a war hero.Zapp demotes him to the lowest position there
is - being Kif's assistant. Bender meanwhile is promoted to chief negotiator
for Earth with Henry Kissingers head, unbeknownst to him that he is carrying
a bomb in his cabinet that will detonate when he says the word 'ass.' Earths
army begins evacuation while Fry sees this as an oppurtunity to redeem
himself with the help of Lee Lemon who turns out to be Leela in disguise.
Fry and Leela are able to stop Bender from saying the detonation word
but only after Bender is able to coax the spheres into surrendering.
Parodies of Star Wars sprinkle this episode as well as Mulan in Leela's
disguise and alter ego in joining the military. The bouncing balls of Sphereon
were great! I have to get me one of those blasters the Earth army used
- priceless! |

Not A Substitute for Human
Interaction
Fry, Leela and Bender all lose their jobs at Planet Express after Bender
and Fry 'borrow' the Planet Express ship for a joyride. Jobless Leela decides
to implant their old career chips so that they can find jobs more easier,
unfortunately she installs Fry's chip in her hand and her chip in his.
Leela is now a delivery boy and Fry works at the cryogenics lab. After
Bender and Fry have some fun with thawing people out (one of which
is Pauly Shore - buuuuudy) they thaw Amy - Fry's girlfriend from the 20th
century. They decide to start dating again but Amy has trouble adjusting
to life in the year 3000 and they make a pact to re-freeze themselves to
live their lives in the year 4000. They wake up in an apocolyptic wasteland
and all hope looks lost. After fighting with some very young warriors -
Amy and Fry again split up. Fry finds his way to Hollywood where the Planet
Express gang find him and explain to him that they were actually in Pauly
Shore's tube where a movie studio was transporting him to a movie premiere
but when they found out that the contents of the tube are not Pauly Shore
they dumped them in the middle of the desert.
The scenes where Bender and Fry welcome the unfrozenies to the future
make this episode worthwhile. This episode loses a little steam towards
the end but the first half more than makes up for it. The L.A. jokes were
a little too contrived for my tastes and really was the only down part
for me. I would like to see Amy appear in more episodes now that she is
in the future with Fry as I think her and Fry go well together and could
create some really funny situations. |

If Not Entertaining Write

Opening Sequence Banner:
If Not Entertaining, Write Your Congressmen
At a truck stop Fry buys an egg salad sandwich in the men's restroom
and soon finds out exactly what type of eggs! Parasites! They begin to
take over his body and mind and start cleaning up the place which turns
Fry into a romantic 'stud' who quickly wins the heart of Leela.
In order to get rid of the parasites Farnsworth scans himself, Amy,
Hermes, Zoidberg, Bender and the Planet Express ship into little tiny replica
robots to go into Fry's body to get rid of the parasites. Unfortunately
Leela has already fallen in love with Fry and scans herself into a robot
and stops the others from expelling the parasites. They are happy but Fry
wants to make sure that Leela loves him for the right reasons and so he
scans himself and enters his own body to get rid of the parasites once
and for all. This way he can be sure that Leela loves him because of who
he is and not what the parasites have made him.
A surprisingly good episode considering the subject matter. Zoidberg
examining Fry while the others watch, the beginning convoy sequence and
truck stop scene are all sure to get a laugh. Watch for the fuel types
at the truck stop - regular matter, dark matter or wattsa matter. Of course
the end is very touching as Fry paints a picture of Leela with his holophoner.
The Planet Express crews whole expedition into the body of Fry also has
alot of funny moments. |

Secreted by the Comedy Bee
Zapp negotiates a double date for himself and Kif with Leela and Amy after
learning of Kif's longing to be with Amy. They agree to go on 1 1/2 double
dates and start things off with a romantic dinner for one (Zapp). During
a raunchy rendition of the tune Lola renamed to Leela by Zapp, all the
guests at the restaraunt head for the escape pods leaving the 4 alone on
the space restaraunt. Zapp decides to drive them home but loses control
and crash lands on an unchartered planet.
They quickly learn that it is inhabited by a race of giant women who
have oulawed men on their planet. Zapp and Kif are imprisoned while Leela
and Amy are set free. Fry and Bender upon learning of the crash set out
to rescue Leela and Amy but are instead captured themselves. The women
turn to their all knowing leader - the Femputer. After learning that the
men have riduculed their way of life the Femputer sentences the men to
death! Death by snu-snu! (Snu-snu being a type of reproductive act that...
well, you get the idea) Bender is released however, as he is not technically
a man and the others are prepared for their fate.
Amy steps in to save Kif and make a break for it to the cave of the
Femputer where the Femputer has had a change of heart. It seems the Femputer
is really operated by a fembot who falls for Bender and decides to free
the prisoners.
Great episode! One of my all time favorites. This episode plays up
many stereotypes of both men and women and will keep you laughing the entire
episode. The scenes of the captured men and how they ridcule the giant
womens way of life were great as were their reactions to the decree of
death by snu-snu. |

Torn From Tomorrow's Headlines
When things start turning up bent at the Planet Express building, Hermes
suggests looking at the survelliance tapes to find out who is doing it.
It appears that Bender has been sleep bending and it is determined that
Bender has some pent up desires to bend things (he is a bender after all)
and he goes out looking for a job to satisfy these supressed desires. He
gets a job at a plant that is on strike and the union is backed by the
robot mafia. There he also meets up with the beautiful fembot Anglyne and,
much to his surprise, Flexo. Bender takes an immediate fancy to Anglyne
until one night he catches her and Flexo together at a restaraunt. Jealous,
Bender demands to know what is going on. Anglyne tells Bender that she
and Flexo used to be married but since their seperation they have remained
close.
Bender devises a plan that will prove Anglyne still loves Flexo as
he impersonates him and asks her out on a date where they have a wonderful
time. Unfortunately for Bender the robot mafia is watching as he flashes
his 'flithy scab money' at the night club. When Anglyne finally expresses
her feeling for Flexo Bender is outraged and immediately heads back to
the plant for a showdown with Flexo. The robot mafia follow him (thinking
he is Flexo) intent on showing him what's what.
At the bending plant Bender meets up with Flexo and a fight ensues
- fitst to fist, blow to blow. The robot mafia have decided to drop an
unbreakable girder on the bending unit with the beard (Flexo) and when
they do Flexo is crushed. Anglyne comes running in and realizes that she
really does love Flexo and wants to be with him. Moved by good nature,
Bender determines to bend the unbendable girder off of Flexo so that he
might escape. He succeeds and Flexo and Anglyne are free to start their
lives over again.
I really like the character of Flexo. He is the same as Bender but
there are subtle differences in their personalities which I think is alot
of fun. Bender's pent up bending feelings and what he bends is really funny
especially when he bends the Professor both at the beginning of the episode
and at the end. Hope we get to see more of Flexo and Anglyne in the future. |

Deciphered From Crop Circles
When Dr. Zoidberg fails at his life long ambition of being a stand up comedian
he writes to his famous Uncle Harold Zoid for some pointers on how to be
funny. His uncle invites him to Los Angeles to talk about his future and
the whole gang heads for the coast. Once there Zoidberg meets up with his
uncle to discuss comedy but Harold Zoid has other plans. He is looking
for an oppurtunity to get back into pictures and to be famous once again.
He tells Zoidberg he is unfunny and he should concentrate on drama. Of
course Harold just so happens to have a magnificent script just waiting
to be shot with the proper financial backing. Preferably from a rich doctor
nephew. Zoidberg is not able to help as doctor's don't make that much money.
Harold Zoid insures that it will be a first rate film especially if they
can get a big name actor for the lead.
Bender is able to step in and help out as he has been 'helping' the
great robot thespian Calculon. Bender shows him the script and he is not
interested until he sees that it has been written by the screen legend
Harold Zoid and agrees to star in it to work with his idol. He finances
the film based off of Bender's suggestion that it will win him the Oscar.
Shooting begins on the Magnificent Three but things turn south as Harold
Zoid, although making a drama, begins adding comedic bits and imploring
all the actors to emore more. By the end of the shoot the money to finance
it is spent so their is very little left to edit it and at the premiere
of it the entire audience walks out. Calculon is furious over the loss
of his money and threatens Bender, Zoidberg and Harold Zoid with bodily
harm if he does not at least win an Oscar from his performance. Come Oscar
time Zoidberg has devised a plan in which he will replace the presenter
for Best Lead in A Drama and award it to Calculon even though he is not
nominated. When he opens the envelope he looks to his uncle and a wave
of emotion comes over him and instead awards it to Harold Zoid.
A very underrated episode as there are many funny moments in the entire
episode. Harold Zoid is a pretty good character and the filming of the
Magnificent Three is extremely funny. The Oscar presentation has some pretty
good spoofs of various famous people and some interesting choices for best
actor. Definitely an episode that needs to be watched a couple of times
to really appreciate the humour of it all. |

Now With Chuckelin
Planet Express is hired to haul a tanker full of dark matter across the
galaxy. Leela objects to hauling the potentially hazardous material which
is scheduled to fly very close to Pluto and the penguin sanctuary on it
to which Professor Farnsworth demotes her from Captain of the Planet Express
hip and promotes Bender to be the new Captain. Leela joins a conservation
group to stop the tanker and they form a human circle in space around the
tanker to which the tanker flies outside and proceeds on its journey. The
conservation group heads to Pluto to try and stop the tanker there..
Meanwhile, on board the Planet Express ship Bender has let the power
of being the ships Captain go to his head and begins ordering Fry around
and forces the nickname of Wiggles upon him as his first mate. Feeling
like Bender values his Captain status more than their freindship Fry leaves
their special dinner at the Captain's Table. Feeling low for taking advantage
of their friendship Bender stops drinking and pilots the ship too close
to Pluto shredding its 6,000 hulls and dumping its payload over the pengiun
sancturary and all the penguins in it. For being well beneath the legal
limit of alcohol for robots Bender is sentenced to community servie on
Pluto cleaning up the penguins who were doused with the dark matter.
Wanting to get out of his community service Bender poses as a penguin.
All is fine until he is eloctocuted by accident and when he reboots he
reboots in penguin mode and begins living life as a penguin. Speaking of
thepenguins it appears that the dark matter spilled on them is natures
aphrodisiac and it causes the penguins to be ultra fertile not to mention
the ability to lay more eggs in addition to making the males lay eggs as
well. As a conservation group Free Waterfall, Sr. cannot let this go on
as it would cruel and inhuman. After a time they would quickly grow out
of their habitat in which most of the population would die. The solution?
Penguin season is now open! Bender leads a revolt against the humans but
will it be enough?
Another fun episode and the second in the line of Free Waterfall characters
to be introduced. While not as popular as Free Waterfall, Jr, Free Waterfall,
Sr. is a great character in his own right. He is really what makes this
episode tick and keeps it together. The bane of the Waterfall clans existence
is also borne out on Waterfall, Sr., as he goes down in an ironic twist
of fate. The scenes of Bender as a penguin are not all that great but as
I mentioned before Free Waterfall, Sr., is able to fill in the gaps and
make this episode worth watching. |

One Year in the Future
Tired of his recent string of badluck Fry decides to find his lucky 7 leaf
clover that he left in a safe in his families bomb shelter when he was
a teenager. Thru a series of flashbacks we get to see the birth of Phillip
J. Fry and his rivalry with his older brother Yancy as well as the finding
of the lucky 7 leaf clover. Upon reaching his home in the ruins of old
New York still standing under New New York, Fry goes to the safe and opens
it up expecting to find the clover, however it is missing. Fry later finds
out that Phillip J. Fry has gone on to become the first man on Mars, the
frontman of a successfull rock group and entrepreneur. Considering his
rivalry with his older brother and how he always wanted to do what Fry
was doing and wanting to be Phillip J. Fry - the real Phillip J. Fry becomes
infuriated and is determined to steal back the clover from his brothers
grave.
Upon digging his brothers grave up to get the clover, Fry uncovers
his headstone and realizes that it wasn't Yancy who stole his life. Yancy,
in honor of his missing little brother, named his firstborn son after Phillip
and handed down the lucky 7 leaf clover to him.
An all around feel good episode of Futurama with plenty of heart. I
like to see these kinds of episodes now and again that do not rely solely
on slapstick or joke-a-minute writing, although there were plenty of funny
moments in the show. |

Please Rise for the Futurama
Theme Song
Upon returning to the orphanasium for her reunion, Leela meets up with
Adele, another orphan who she had a crush on. Adela is sorry for making
fun of Leela when they were children and suggests a way that nobody will
ever make fun of her again - graft another eye so that she will look normal
like everybody else.
Meanwhile, Bender schemes to adopt some children when he learns that
the government will send him money. He adopts twelve children who quickly
fall in love with daddy Bender ('Our daddy's a giant toy!'). Bender quickly
learns the ways of fatherhood are not easy - especially after realizing
that it costs more to take care of them than he is getting paid. He then
tries to sell them to an Asian restaraunt.
After her surgery Leela is remarkably like everybody else with two
eyes. A romance ensues between her and Adela and they think about adopting
children. When Leela and Adela go to adopt a child from Bender they cannot
decide on one until Leela wants to adopt the child with a third ear on
her forehead. Adela finally agrees with Leela but only on the condition
that he can operate on her to remove the third ear. Leela then realizes
that it is the differences between people that make them special and wants
Adela to make her the way she was - a cyclops.
A really funny episode showing some of Leela's past in the orpanarium
and the scenes with Bender and the orphans. The take-off on the Twilight
Zone episode In the Eye of the Beholder was good to. Leela's shopping spree
to the tune of Pretty Woman was great as she shows off her new eyes was
a nice little interlude. |

Bender's Humor by Microsoft
Joke
This episode is brought to you by Thompsons Teeth
After getting caught up in a bank robbery with the robot Roberto, Fry
and Bender are mistakenly accused and sentenced to the robot insane asylum.
Even though Fry tries to convince them that he is not a robot, nobody at
the insane asylum believes him. After all the asylum is full of robots
who think they are human. Approaching his last ounce of humanity, Fry is
pushed over the edge when his new roommate at the insane asylum is none
other than - Roberto!
Pushed over the edge, Fry is let go from the asylum as he now believes
himself to be a robot. He tries finding out his primary function but is
unsueccesfull at being a toolbot and a adding machine. Meanwhile, Bender
and Roberto break out of the insane asylum and head for the Planet Express
building where they are quickly surrounded by the police. Roberto quickly
takes everybody hostages when Fry realizes his true function - he is a
battle bot! He turns on Roberto who after a brief encounter with Fry the
Battle Bot jumps out the window and surrenders to the police. Fry realizes
he is human after all when he discovers he has been cut and is bleeding
from the encounter with Roberto.
A bunch of crazy robots, one really crazy robot and one crazy human
who tries to get others to believe that he isn't a robot is what makes
this episode fun. The scenes in the robot asylum are all great! Insane
Eddie is Fry's roommate and he is constantly blowing up. The scene at the
dinner table is also great as a robot refugee from Alice in Wonderland
continually demands that all robots change places. One of the best scenes
of this episode has to be when Fry battles Roberto - true classic! |

Federal Law Prohibits Changing

After finding a Volkswagon Bus dug up from an excavation site Fry and Bender
bring it back to Planet Express to clean it up. Bender has an accident
with a can opener which leaves him paralized. Despondant and feeling low
Bender runs into the head of Beck in the hospital who is having a mannequin
body attached to his jar. Beck lets Bender know that life isn't over just
because he can't move and gives him his mechanical arms to which Bender
is able to scratch out some sounds on his damaged body. Beck offers Bender
a gig in his band which fulfills a lifelong dream of Bender's to become
a folk singer.
Beck and Bender head out on tour with the rest of the Planet Express
crew close behind 60's style in Fry's refurbished VW bus. At a gig Bender
notices some broken robots who are being destroyed and wonders what he
can do to help his fellow robots. He decides a benefit concert is the thing
to do and with the help of Beck they organize Bend-Aid. A charitable organization
to aid broken robots and to bring awareness to the population that just
because a robot is broken doesn't mean he is useless. Bender
puts his feelings into song and premieres it at Bend-Aid but before
he can perform it he regains the use of his body and so in a sense becomes
a hyporcrite. Bender decides to go through with the performance and to
pretend that he still cannot move but soon the rythm of the music bears
out the real Bender. The gathering crowd is none too happy over Bender's
mobility and run him out of town. |

For Proper Viewing Take
Red Pill Now
While enjoying a nice day at the park the Planet Express crew encounter
an invasion by the Globetrotters who have come to Earth to challenge it
to a game of basketball to prove their superiority on the court. When nobody
will accept the challenge laid down by the Globetrotters, Farnsworth steps
up and offers his sub-atomic mutants to battle the brothers from another
planet.
The problem being that his mutants are still little babies and in need
of maturation. Farnsworth suggest the Planet Express crew to gather some
nuetrinos at the edge of the Universe. When they return from their mission
the Professor feeds them to the sub-atomic mutant babies and they instantly
start growing and mutating into a world class mutant basketball team just
in time to face off against the Globetrotters. Things are going great until
crazy things start happening on the basketball court. Time keeps jumping
forward in random intervals. AFter the game (in which Fry somehow manages
to lose it for Earth during a time skip) Farnsworth determines that the
time skips must be related to the nuetrinos that were plucked from space
and to remedy that they might be able to move a nearby nebula closer to
the nuetrino field to stabilize the time continuum. Bubblegum Tate, the
leader of the Globetrotters and renowned physicist concurs and it is off
with the Planet Express crew once again to try and rectify the situation.
Unfortunately it doesn't work and the time skips continue but not before
we get to see both Fry and Leela married and divorced over a span of about
three minutes. Fry is perplexed over this whole scenario as this was the
one thing that he has wanted for some time - to be near Leela. Because
of the time skips neither he nor Leela knows what it was that Fry did to
win the heart of Leela.
In a last ditch effort to save the Earth Farnsworth and Bubblegum Tate
devise another plan. One that would involve creating some sort of doomsday
device to create a black hole thereby nuetralizing the nuetrino fields.
Off the Planet Express crew go to install and detonate the doomsday device.
After it is installed they begin to leave the nuetrino field but not before
Fry can see the thing he did to impress Leela into marrying him. The unfortunate
thing is that Leela did not see it either and it is destroyed along with
the nuetrino field.
I like episodes like this that start in one direction but end up entirely
somewhere else. I would like to have seen more of the Globetrotters and
Bubblegum Tate here, particularly when discussing the Universe and physics
and junk. Real fun character and I hope they can come back again in the
future. Out of all the episodes I think this actually had one of the strongest
emotional moments between Fry and Leela as Fry tells Leela in order to
impress her he has been learning to drive the Planet Express ship. Sensing
that Fry is feeling down over their breakup she lets him drive the ship
out of the nuetrino field. It was a subtle moment but one that spoke volumes
about the characters. |

No Humans Were Probed in
the Making of This Episode
When Fry is bored living in the future he gets the others to take him out
to do all the things he always wanted to do. After seeing the edge of the
universe, riding a T-Rex and blowing up planets he comes to the final items
on his list. Dating a celebrity. Lucky for him that in the future people
can download celebrities into blank robots and spend time with them. Fry
selects Lucy Lui to download from Nappster and she immediately falls in
love with him (they're all programmed that way). The rest of the gang starts
to feel Fry is spending too much time with his fembot when all he wants
to do is make out with her. Even after showing Fry the propaganda film
Don't Date Robots! he is still not convinced. Fry, Leela and Zoidberg are
determined to shut down Nappster.
When they get there they here the screams of Lucy Lui from behind a
closed door and when they investigate the reveal Nappsters true name -
it is KidNappster. They have been holding celebrity heads in jars for years
to download illegal copies. They rescue Lucy Lui and run off - but not
before the owners of KidNappster can make a whole army of Lucy Luibots
to go after Leela, Bender and Zoidberg. They fight and defeat the first
wave of fembots then take refuge in a movie house where they run into Fry
and the Lucy Luibot. The army of Luibots breaks into the movie house and
attacks the gang. They escape into the projector room where first they
attack them with popped popcorn and then with the projector light which
causes the Luibots to malfunction and be defeated. All are defeated save
for the Fry's Luibot who gives herself up and is destroyed herself.
Fun episode that would be neat if they revisited some of these themes
in the future like downloading celebrities into blank disc robots. Plenty
of possibilities there I think. I really liked the scenes with Fry and
the Luibot where she continually asks him if he would like to register
her. The take-off of All in the Family by Bender and Leela was great I
thought as was Bender and the head of Lucy Lui becoming an item at the
end of the episode. You've got metal fever boy! |
