Here are some before and after shots of the frame. Everyone that sees this
frame has commented on how sturdy and solid it is built. To start off on
its restoration, I rented a high pressure steam cleaner and spent several hours
getting it clean. What a messy job that was and I recommend you don't do
it in the front driveway like I did. I then disassembled everything and
took all of the pieces to a local shop that specialized in older Corvette restorations
for blasting and paint. I wanted to get it powdercoated but the owner
convinced me to let him paint it with a PPG product called Pitguard.
He showed me some Corvette frames he had painted and it looked nice! I then
reassembled everything with all new hardware. The frame sat out in the
Arizona sun for several years after that. The paint held up well but it
did fade a bit. Recently, I put a coat of chassis black laquer on it to
get that new look back in it. I still have to make new brake and fuel lines
and finish up a few other things. The following are a few shots of various
parts. |
