In Lafayette . . .

Ever evolving is the best way to describe Gay bars in Lafayette. They come and go with regularity. A life span of three years seems to be about average. Only Frank's Bar defied this Natural Law. That is until it burned a few years ago.

Presently Lafayette has five bars catering to the Homosexual Community. Three are basically gay and one primarily lesbian. However, any gender is welcome at all of them.

Backstreet is a smaller bar located on Polk Street which is parallel to and one block off of Jefferson Street. It is a quiet place mostly popular with the older crowd. Same owner as the Sound Factory.  The address is 110 Polk Street. Phone: 269-0430.  Rumors are that it will be closing in the near future.

Jules is the "talking" gay bar in Lafayette. The music is not so loud that screaming is required to speak to the person next to you. Some lesbian clientele are usually in attendance. It now has a DJ and dancing starts about 10 PM. It is a friendly place and the crowd is casual and happy. The address is 533 Jefferson Street. Phone: 264-8000. Strippers on some nights!

Mojo Monkeys is primarily a lesbian bar. But as previously noted, gay men are not turned away. It is located at the intersection of General Mouton and Spring Streets and bears the address of 116 Spring Street. Phone: 261-9020.

The Sound Factory, also located on Jefferson Street, seems to be in picking up in recent months.  The addition of strippers has made it more appealing to a larger crowd. The address is 209 Jefferson Street near it's intersection with Olivier Street. Phone: 269-6011.

In Lake Charles . . .

Crystals is the only show in town. The bar is a little dark but you will get used to it. Music is good and the dance floor active. Especially after 10 PM on weekends. A cover charge is an annoyance but it is the only place if you are on the prowl. Address is 112 W. Broad at Ryan.
