A parallelogram has four sides and both pairs of opposite sides are equal in length and parallel to each other. Parallel means that they are going in the same direction and always stay the same distance apart from each other. If you made the opposite sides longer and longer, they would never, ever touch because they always stay the same distance apart. A rhombus is a parallelogram, but all four sides are equal in length.
