The meeting opened with a discussion about the election of the 2006 GDCA Board Members. Mark Upton refused everyone’s plea to carry on as President for another term. Randy Nichols agreed to take over if elected. It was stated that Arlyn does not want to be secretary again so Mary Fontenot offered. Mike Schexnayder suggested appointing a nominating committee to develop a slate of officers. Martha Saloman motioned that Mike put out an announcement asking if anyone wishes to nominate someone, please contact the nominating committee. All present agreed. Mike Schexnayder, Heather Westra, David Franz and Carolyn Coco will be on the nominating committee. Ricky Brock, Don Parker, Chip Coulter and Jane Hodges will no longer be on the board. Mark Upton, Pam and John Rice, Peggy and Mark Hilzim, Cindy Elliott, Heather Westra, Sonya Pickens, Martha Saloman, and Mary Fontenot agreed to be on the board.
The GDCA Annual Meeting was discussed. Suggested topics for the meeting were the Historical Ordinance (Mark), the financial report (Sonya) and the security report, which should include an incidence report. Martha Saloman said she would get in touch with Ricky Brock. David Franz offered to present the report. Mid-City Redevelopment will be asked to make a presentation. Martha will ask Kristin, from the Planning Commission to help Mark with the Historic District presentation. Kurt LeJeune’s and the Alton’s houses were the first to be renovated under the new guidelines. They have done a good job. Mark Upton will invite Don Stone to give a security report. Martha, Mary and Suzanne agreed to bring cookies, lemonade and water. Sunday, March 12, 2006 was the first choice for a date. Sunday, March 5, 2006 was the second choice. It was hoped that the meeting would be held at either the new building at the City Park Gallery or the room next to the gym at City Park. (March 12th and the room next to the gym have since been chosen.) It was hoped that Cindy Elliott would head the door prize committee. Randy offered to ask Cindy to do this. Arlyn may be able to make copies of John Sikes information about how to research the history of your house. It was suggested that perhaps we could have hand-outs at the meeting.
A newsletter will need to come out advertising the annual meeting in mid-February. It was suggested that residents should be asked to send us questions that we would try to answer in the newsletter. Martha said that the Coates house on Drehr was a “sick house” long ago. That is the sort of thing we can find out more about and share. For the newsletter Suzanne has projects and goals she wants to write about. Sonya may do a Garden Club report.
Heather Westra offered to host the February 22, 2006 board meeting. Suzanne offered to call Flo Ulmer and ask about when the next Tour of Homes will be. For the first meeting with the new board, after the annual meeting, Martha will invite a representative from Entergy to speak about the recent problems.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Fontenot
