Hearye, Hearye, All Dirty Gamey Bastards,
Your most exalted, self-appointed leader and DGB #1 is about
to pass on his wisdom to the uninitiated. Pearls of wisdom will abound.
To those that have not taken the DGB Pledge, I would offer
this:
1. DGBs do have more fun trying to utilize the scenario to
their advantage. Remember there is always more than one way to "skin a
cat."
2. Some of the ideas that help shoot a stage more quickly
are
a)
Shoot guns of the smallest caliber available.
b)
Shoot the lightest loads possible. My actual lowest
chronographed load for my 45 Colt is 276 fps. Not very good for a match but
works great if you want to see every bullet travel to the target.
c)
Wear clothing and holsters that are compatible with moving
quickly and do not inhibit
d)
Drawing or reholstering. I have seen many shooters that wear a
vest that is in conflict with the gun.
e)
Have the right tool for the job. ie scatter gun with open
choke for flying targets and tighter choke for distant knockdown targets.
f)
Buy featherlight shells for close targets and field loads for
distant targets.
These are a few of the things that a true DGB does to insure his/her placing as high as possible each and every match. BUT, the most valuable tool that you have is YOUR BRAIN. I'm not yelling, I'm just stressing a point. Think about what you are going to do before you do it. YOUR brain is an amazing tool and will surprise you in what it can accomplish especially if you do not have to think about the actual shooting process because it is second nature or you are "in the zone."
Mainly, just have as much fun as you can.
Very truly yours your DGB #1,
Cut n Shoot
