Objective: Assist members with their outreach activities by providing tools that help create a positive image of Women’s clubs and familiarize members with the Federation’s history, mission and current initiatives.

ACTION PLAN:

Publicize club projects to increase community awareness, attract new club members and assist GFWC’S national public relations efforts.
Appoint a chairman for your club
Use ‘GFWC’ proceeding your club name
Send concise media advisories about club projects & benefits to your community
Be creative in finding way to tell your story
1. Letters to the editor
2. Get on local TV
3. Send story suggestions to the newspaper, radio or TV
4. Distribute flyers
5. Co-sponsor events with other community groups
6. Set up an information booth at college career fairs, county fairs etc.
Call or e-mail reporters at least one week in advance of an event and remind them to cover it
Always remind the reporters etc. that your club is part of an international organization and keep them informed about the International President’s special project & major programs and events.
Use the GFWC membership video at club and community meetings
Celebrate Federation Day (April 24th)
Display the Federation banner, flag or emblem at meeting place and at all club events
Use the GFWC emblem on all printed materials
Order and use the GFWC Public Relations Kit from Headquarters
Distribute the radio Public Service Announcements (PSAs) (available free of charge from Headquarters) to stations in your area
When a local newspaper runs a major story on your club or state federation, send a copy of the GFWC Public Relations Director

AWARDS:

GFWC will award $50.00 annually to one club in the nation to recognize creativity in implementing the Public Relations program.
The award will be based on report narratives.

PUBLICITY BOOK CONTEST

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

50 percent for newspaper articles and evidence of TV and radio coverage
30 percent for other kinds of publicity in the form of brochures, signs, flyers, paid advertisements, Public Service Announcements (Spa’s) new member kits, membership cards and creative web pages (please include examples in a section following the clippings)
20 percent for presentation and ease of handling
State will submit one publicity book (the best in the state) to GFWC Headquarters. Materials in the book should have been prepared/printed/aired between January 1,2006 and December 31,2006 for the year 2007 entry.
Publicity books are a documentation of a club’s outreach activity for the year. The name of the publication and date the article appeared should be on each clipping.
Judges find it helpful if you write one or two sentences (no more) explaining a project or program you have publicized.
On the front page of the book, include the following: name of club, name of club contact, number of club members, city in which club is located along with population figures and local radio and television stations to which the club news was sent
Print name of club and year on the outside cover of the book
Entries should be in a lightweight, 8x5"x11" binder or cover. DO NOT PUT MATERIALS IN MORE THAN ONE BOOK!
Enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope of the necessary size or submit a check to cover cost of return postage. Only those entries that include a SASE will be returned.

DEADLINE:

Club entry must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2007 and 2008 to State Public Relations Chairman - Patricia Gage,1414 10th St, Aurora, NE 68818 402-694-3008
First place state winner submitted to GFWC headquarters.
