Sir John Storey Barwick, second baronet, died at Crowborough, Sussex, on Thursday at the age of 76. He was born on August 4, 1876, the elder son of the first baronet, a well-known coalowner in the North Riding of Yorkshire and in Durham. Most of his time and energy were spent in fostering the family business, but he also did a good deal of public work and was High Sheriff of Durham in 1922, having succeeded his father in the baronetcy in 1915. He married in 1907 Gwladys Jessie, third daughter of the late G. W. G. Thomas, of Ystrad Mynach, Glamorgan. She died in 1949, in the same year in which his elder son died. He is survived by two daughters and by his younger son, Mr. R. L. Barwick, who succeeds to the baronetcy and who was born in 1916 and married in 1948 Valerie Maud, daughter of Mr. R. J. Skelton. There are two children of the marriage, a son and a daughter.
