Why technology is important?

Technological advancements in the 19th and 20th Centuries contributed greatly to our better living standard today.  Just a few of these are electrical power distribution, the telephone, medical drugs, micro surgery, satellite communications, refrigerators, electric ovens, television, motion pictures, medical body scanning machines, LASER surgery, air transportation and many others.

New advances in technology in the areas of energy, transportation, medicine, and materials have the potential of greatly benefiting society. Research being done on solar photovoltaic cells and new material science have the potential of producing low cost devices that produce inexpensive, clean electricity.  This will have an impact on homeowners and industry and will allow for clean, efficient transportation systems.  Advances in computer sciences and medicine are the best hope for  fighting diseases and increasing lifespan. Nano-medical technologies may effectively eliminate blindness and restore eyesight.  This technology may provide effective artificial organs and in other ways greatly reduce human suffering.
