The population of the world
will be doubling or maybe tripling in the 21st Century. Government,
business, organizations, and the public will need to address the major
challenges and problems facing society. Some of these will be:
-
People
will need to be housed, feed, educated, employed and kept healthy.
-
The
potential of terrorist groups possessing weapons of mass destruction
that can be used to destroy cities and kill millions of people will
increase.
-
Powerful,
out-of-control diseases may threaten a large segment of the population..
-
Natural resources will be used up at increasing rates.
-
Transportation and jobs will be critical factors.
Cities worldwide
will be suffering from increased congestion.
(For example,
the one million additional people in San Diego, California will bring roads and
freeways to a gridlock not to mention the lack of parking for all these
vehicles. Atlanta, Georgia is experience heavy congestion that will only worsen
in the years ahead. This is a common problem with cities
worldwide.)
-
There
is a potential for increased racism and intolerance.
-
The expansion of the global economy will bring benefits along with problems such
as potential abuses by global corporations.
The intelligent use of technology
will be critical to solving future problems.
Citizens of all countries
will need to plan ahead for their own health, financial security, and
family well being.
