Delta Line to the East Coast of South America
The New Orleans based Delta Line also had modified C-3 freighters in combo line service. The 120 passenger ships--Del Mar, Del Norte, and Del Sud sailed during the 1950s and 1960s. These ships sailed to ports such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Note in the outdoor picture below shows a raised area where passengers are lounging This is a cargo hatch.
Delta Lines ceased passenger operations in the late 1960s, but again began service in the late 1970s operating former Grace Line ships from San Francisco around South America. See the section on Grace Line.
