President's Message

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Welcome to Glastonbury A Better Chance website.  If you are already familiar with the organization, the website will help you catch up on recent activities at the house.  If you are visiting our website for the first time, I hope you will learn more about a program that really makes a difference.

As we approach our 35th year of operation, it is a perfect time to reflect on the past and what the program has meant to our scholars and community.  This year, I participated in the new student selection process.  The National ABC program sends Glastonbury a number of eligible applicants and we select the ones who best fit our program.  I was curious as to why someone would choose to leave friends and family at the age of 14 and move to a new town, a new school, and a new house.  Our scholars have different personalities and interests, but I found the one trait they share is a drive and determination to improve their futures.

In Glastonbury, we are blessed with great schools, great teachers, and a safe environment. It makes me proud that so many people are willing to share the enormous benefits we have in this town.   Almost all our scholars attend college and we count doctors, lawyers, teachers, social workers, and corporate leaders among our graduates.  Many come back to tell us how pivotal ABC was in their lives.  I recently spoke with one of the original students, 1977 graduate Allen Wells, who urged me to thank everyone in the Glastonbury community who helps this program.

The ABC experience is not just about the scholars, but about everyone who touches their lives.  On behalf of the entire Glastonbury ABC family, thank you for your interest and support.  You truly do help to provide “A Better Chance.”

Joan Faustman
