Portfolio for 2001-2002
Some Accomplishments for the Year
Glen Krause, Network Administrator - UST

Backup and Restoration:
5 years of no lost data and up time. Our network is never down, our data is never lost or damaged. We have multiple onsite and offsite backups and I have safely restored data with no down time. On our annual site evaluation from Edison every category that pertained to data, backups, or infrastructure received the highest mark of “Exemplary”.

Setup & Maintenance of computers, network, and hardware:
All of our systems are online continually, all classroom and laptop computers are operational continually. We have 7 server computers and about 300 onsite computers.

Support technology initiatives as needed:
We test everything that comes down the pike for Edison. We make it work, then they use it in other schools nation wide. We fully support every Edison mandate and system. This includes but is not limited to
SASI,
Starship Testing Systems,
Benchmark Testing Systems,
NT servers etc...

Technology Support and Help Desk:
We have a one or two day turn around on all Tech Repair Requests continually. Teachers can drop off a laptop any time of any day, I stop what I am doing and help instantly for all admin personnel with computer problems.

Management of User Accounts:
Thousands of users, all up to date, all continually maintained and working daily.

Personal initiative, systems development, site development:
This year I conceived and created the online calender for our site. It is now a part of our daily routine and used widely. I conceived and managed the next phase of the online calendar that will make it possible for Kevin to maintain, and free me from daily webmastering. This new calendar will come online with our new equipment and the coming school year. I conceived and oversee the creation and maintaining of our ONSITE local.general (staff_News) group. I lost count of how many times NY was down and our school was NOT down due to having this on OUR network and under my management. We are not NY dependent for our sites communications. I conceived, oversee and help in the creation and maintenance of our onsite resources server that includes but is not limited to the following:
Online Digital Camera Pics
Web Page Templates with automated “send me” feature for teachers
Clip Art Gallery
Web Art Gallery
I conceived and created the “Reply to weekly Bulletin” to encourage and track teacher participation in technology and communications on site. I conceived and created the Super Sub Schedule used daily on our site.

Bonus Material, ingenuity, money savings, and initiative:
I saved enough money in my repairs budget by doing all my own repairs to get a network printer for every lead. We now have “House” printers. This solves many problems and saves much money on site. The “House” will be responsible for toner, paper and making their own policies for printing. This saves greatly on paper and toner and makes the printers and supplies “self policing”. This also saves the computer lab and media center printers from taking all the load daily. This also reduces the load on our new ink jet printers we are getting per classroom and they will last and be useful for more years of convenient operation in the classrooms. This also will help the lead Secretary by ELIMINATING people printing to the office printer when she is doing certificates and other important jobs.

Golden Achievements, BIG money issues:
Last but certainly not least I was given the 2 year old ongoing “headache project” of the SASI/Pentamation systems interface. Less than 3 weeks after receiving the project as the new project manager I was able to build a repour with the district leadership and techs, and guide our onsite personnel to victory and this system is up and running daily. I have the promise from Maria at the district that we can and will in the very near future be improving upon the current systems interface and take us into the future where literally “no Edison School has gone before”. I am also daily directing the work flow of Brian Bennett and of course myself to maximize productivity and serve our user community here at Feaster. I am working with Stacy McGee, Technology Director and NY on a nearly daily basis on the “rollover” to our new network and new systems with the goal of having no administrative down time and minimal user downtime.

In Closing:
I love my job and the staff here at Feaster Edison Charter and it is my privilege and joy to offer my services for another year of HUGE change in rebuilding this entire network from the ground up and taking us boldly into the 21st century....
