We are a group of Corvair enthusiasts dedicated to participating in competitive automotive moving events with our Corvairs. We have and will continue to participate in any event that affords us the opportunity to operate our vehicles.
The Corvair was first produced in 1960. The small car was initially intended to be an economy car. The unique horizontally opposed air cooled six cylinder that is located behind the rear wheels and the independent suspension was destined to be a fine starting point for an American sports car. Bill Thomas and Doug Roe were pioneers in developing the Corvair potential. GM took steps to capitalize on the Corvair's potential with the introduction of a turbocharged model in 1962. Engine displacement also increase from the initial 140 cubic inches to the final configuration of 164 cubic inches. The fact the there are still Corvairs competing nearly 40 years after the last car was produced in 1969 is a statement of how revolutionary the original design was.
The members of the GoNed Race Team continue to develop and improve the capabilities of our Corvairs. Certainly there are modern cars that can easily out perform our Corvairs. We drive Corvairs, not because it's easy, but rather because it's not easy. Our primary goal is to enjoy the time we invest in working on our cars as well as driving them in competition. Our team members also generously give their time to assist other Corvair owners to improve their cars. The reason for doing this, is to extend our enjoyment of the Corvair to all owners.
Finally, we get to our mission statement. This statement can apply to Corvair drivers everywhere. We, Corvair driver's, as a group are very similar to our cars. We are unique and have the tendency to things that are not traditional. With this in mind we are proud to say:
