So you think you might want a Golden Retriever huh? OK, here is the low down
Golden Retrievers are loving dogs, that just want to be with you all the time. This is why they are used as care and assistance dogs. Goldens are the best family dogs around, but they are just as happy living with one person. Golden Retrievers are smart, and take to training very well. Golden's are rated number 5 in intelligence. Max has graduated from the Humane Society's Puppy School, and Good Citizenship School. He has also had extensive personal training from his owner. Max will heal off leash while cars are whizzing by, children are calling to him, and dogs are barking and scurrying around him. It isn't easy to teach a Golden to do this, but if you have the time and the patience, a Golden has the smarts, desire, and enthusiasm, to learn. Goldens like to be outside playing, swimming, and will retrieve anything, anytime, anywhere. But they don't mind spending a day sleeping around the house, or just hanging out with you. The most important thing to a Golden, is that they are with you. Looking for a guard or a watch dog? Then don't get a Golden. But if you want to chase some raccoons away from the house, you've got the right dog. Max won't tolerate any raccoons! Goldens do shed in warm weather, and have a long enough coat to get mats. So you need to brush and bath them regularly. Max gets brushed once a day. He gets a bath, his teeth brushed, and his ears cleaned once a week. Every four to six months he gets his teeth cleaned. A Golden's health issues are joint problems, skin allergies, and tumors. Every Golden I have had, has suffered from skin allergies, and itching problems, and eventually some kind of joint problems. The allergy problems can be easily dealt with. Use Bayer "Advantage" once every 4 to 6 weeks, to keep the fleas off, and give them a weekly bath with any cheap shampoo, to keep the allergens off their coat. If necessary, they respond well to antihistamines. Now days, there is lots of help for dogs with joint problems, using supplements and aspirin therapy. And these new supplements really work. Of course there is nothing like a heating pad after a hard day at the beach, and maybe a massage by their owner, to make a great day perfect! Golden's make the cutest puppies! Just watch the video if you don't believe me! See if this is the kind of
buddy you're looking for So now you know all about Golden Retrievers. And if you still have a question, just send an email to Max. After all, he's an expert when it comes to Goldens! A Golden Retriever lives and
breaths, to love his family. |
