The Pawn Shop Gig: December 11, 2004 This show was for a pawn shop, it seems. We weren't sure; we just wanted to have fun. Photos by Tomo Pound. |
The Day of the Drum: October 31, 2004 On Halloween Day, 2004, Diaspora played two sets at the Day of the Drum festival at Embarcadero Park, San Diego. We opened the event with a rousing show; then, members of the Super Sonic Samba School joined us for a final set in the late afternoon. Photos by Tomo Pound. |
Rehearsal at World Beat Center: July 8, 2004 Since May, 2004, we have been based at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park, San Diego. This is a center for world music, and multicultural events and awareness. Photos by Katty Pound. |
Workshop with Olodum: June 7, 2004 In May, 2004, we moved our rehearsal location to the World Beat Center in Balboa Park, San Diego. On the first stop of their tour, Olodum gave us a percussion workshop there. We then all moved downtown to see Olodum play in a small bar under a Spanish restaurant called Cafe Sevilla. Brick By Brick Club: May 20, 2004 Dance clubs are very rewarding to play for, as long as people are dancing. In this case, the dancing was great, and we responded. Photos by Katty Pound. |
Mira Costa College: May 1, 2004 This event marked our first stage show. It was an international festival, featuring Hawaiian music and dance, Japanese Koto and flute, and an eclectic percussionist. Photos by Katty Pound. |
Rehearsal at Mind, Body, & Soul: April 15, 2004 Our first full-time rehearsal location was a dance studio in San Diego called Mind, Body, & Soul. The studio was really nice, with smooth floors, mirror, sound system, and facilities. These photos were taken by Misa while we prepared for the Mira Costa College performance. The Flame Club: April 15, 2004 Our first public performance. These photos were taken by Carly, but the camera ran out of batteries after only two shots. We had a lot of fun at this performance. It was the last time we would play at The Flame, since it closed two weeks later. Photos by Carly. |
