Economic Development Members of the Arizona Competitive Power Alliance have invested billions of dollars in essential Arizona infrastructure. Power plants, transmission lines and gas storage facilities are critical components in a growing economy. These investments benefit the entire state, but they provide an even more substantial benefit to the rural communities in which they are built. In fact, while some say that Arizona's rural lifestyle is fast disappearing, we don't believe the decline is inevitable Clean-burning natural gas power plants provide jobs and tax revenue for struggling rural communities. The Harquahala generating station in western Maricopa county, for example, provided a 17 fold increase in the local property tax base--enough for a new fire truck, and enhanced local services with enough left over to reduce local property taxes.
