A special note of thanks to John Gourley. John never served on the Harry but did take these pictures from another ship. Thanks John for taking the time to scan your pictures and sending them to me on CD.

"As for the specifics of that day I was on the Blandy, that was the 17th of August 1972. I got to go as a guest of Dr. Herb Bistrong, who was in the Naval Reserves at that time and along with his son we drove from Topsfield Massachusetts to Newport Rhode Island, were welcomed aboard the Blandy and away we went, we got to watch a few helicopter practice pickup/recovery drills, we leapfrogged with the Yarnell awhile, also they had what looked like a white sonobuoy which they were able to light at one end, throw overboard and it was like a white smoke flare, then they would maneuver the ship as close as possible without touching it to make the rescue of a simulated man overboard. We watched the exercises then ate in the galley while this was going on and we got a feeling for eating while the ship leaned into turns as we kept our chow from getting away from us. They had a plan to fire one of the guns but that was cancelled later that day. We boarded a tugboat in the evening and returned to shore. I also remember being told the skipper and XO were quite young, and were referred top as the 'Mod Squad' of up and coming officers. My only real regret of that day was not having a better quality camera, but that came later in my life."
