Christmas Break [ posted
December 22nd, 2003 ]
Finally, I am to that magical time where college students slack off
and dont have to worry about what homework is due when, no papers due,
and no early alarms to cram before a test. God I love the breaks.
Nothing really much new (partially the reason why the webpage hasnt
been updated). I've finished another could of books, and am reading
Programming Linux Games ,
avery good book I might add. Also the new 2.6 kernel has finally been
released after 2+ years of development, but I have yet to get it to
work right on my laptop.
And now for something totally random: Boogah!
Two down, three to go... [ posted December

So far I am 40% down with finals which is a
relief. My next two on are Wednesday, but my last one is Saturday
at 5:30PM. Also in LSU news, they are "giving" 2,000 students
Sugarbowl tickets, but at the reduced price of $150, which is exactly
the same price as a ticket is for Season ticket holders and only 3x
more than the cost of student tickets for the WHOLE season. Most
of my friends and I are pissed about this because it really is too
expensive for most students, let alone student workers to really
foot. Well back to studying.....

LSU schooled Georgia once again, but this time in
Georgia's own stadium. The final was 34-13. Now the real
question is what bowl are we going two. It's either the Nokia
Sugarbowl or the Rose Bowl. I really hope that it is the
Sugarbowl because it is held in New Orleans only 45 minutes away. LSU's

Well it's been almost a month since I last updated the
website, but I've been pretty busy though. Neal left on the 11th of
November. Right now the USMC is sending him back to Iraq for December.
It's his job, but damn, he had been in Iraq for 10 months, and was home
for 2, now they are sending him back! He also proposed to Meredeith;
they are planning on having the wedding sometime around January 2005.
Lisa and I broke up on the Halloween. I cant really say it was hard on
me, just something I have known to have been coming. For wa while I
couldnt see myself marrying her and being happy. Once someone tells you
that you are afraid to be seen in public with them on a night when you
had invited them to go to three of your friends Halloween parties, it
is over. There is something fundamentally wrong with the relationship.
Besides those two points, life has been ok, getting better. Went with
my sister, Kerry, and Devon to the French Quater one night. It was fun.
I enjoy hanging out with Kerry, she is a very sweet girl. I've hung out
with her twice, once at the vineyard and other was just mention. I like
her company.
Fedora Core 1 (Yarrow)
aka Red Hat 10 is a very good release, slightly slower than Mandrake
9.2 but much much more stable. I would tell anyone to try this release.
It's pretty good. It's not up to Red Hat's typical high standards, but
it's no longer offically Read Hat. I do wish that they would include
media players in the release, that I guess would be my only real bone
to pick. At least Enemy Territory doenst crash ever 3 minutes. gDesklets is a cool
little program that adds some nice pazzaz to the Gnome desktop. Hehe,
you can make Gnome look like Mac OSX with the staterbar desklet and
some tweaking. I have also fallen in love with Rhythembox . It looks and acts a
lot like iTunes, minus the iTunes sotre front. It does allow you to rip
your CD's into OGG and select your music by artist, band, or genre. Any
of you Gnome lovers, test it out.
Finally, some time soon, I will probably add a few shell
scripts I wrote to the Code page and some how too for: Installing Totem
in Fedora; installing and setting up Visualboy Advance (GBA emulator)
and gnomeboyadvance (frontend). Go ahead and try them, just dont do
anything illegal.

Not too much has been going on lately, despite the up and
down fights with Lisa. Neal got in around 6:45pm Tuesday afternoon. He
mom made a big fuss at the airport. You would never expect a marine to
blush hunh? Wednesday night, went to dinner with out girlfriends and
later it was guys night out. Neal and myself (Jeff was suppose to come,
but he couldnt come for other reasons) went to the Caterie and had a
couple of beers and cigarettes, and played a few games of pool.
Thursaday, Lisa was pissed off at me. She was mad because she drove 45
minutes and only got to see me for two hours the night before, but I
dont really have any pitty, because I told her it was guys night out
after the dinner. Friday, Lisa, Neal and I chilled and drank at my
place. Merideith didnt join in because she hates drinking. We watched
Robin Williams Live on Broadway and "The Matrix Reloaded". Saturday it
was just me and lisa bumming around town, had some fun. Yesterday,
Neal's church had a reception for him (yummy tons of food). Afterward,
Lisa and I went to the mall, where m,y big mouth got me in trouble
again. Geez, some people cant take a joke.... Eh, and thats the update
of my life.

3. Being a fan of both of those games orginals, I am highly looking
forward to buying them both. Personally, I noticed that Toys 'R Us is
having a buy 2 get a 3rd game free deal going on this week, which would
be a good deal. I still havent beaten Viewtiful Joe, I am stuck on the
level where you have to beat all of the old bosses, in a row... without
saving... without health. Must.. beat..Viewiful.. Joe.
Oh yeah, my geekdom has been peaked once again, I found the Baton Rouge Linux Users Group (BRLUG).
I think I will go to the next meeting which is on November 3rd. Later

Well I turned 21 today. Now what? Sigh, no one ever
cards me. I went to Calandro's and they didnt card me when I bought
about $50 of liquor. Oh well. At least i am done with my midterms.
Also, I've gotten my hands on MDK 9.2 final and well it's pretty sweet.
More later.

Gosh, so much to do; so little time. Unfortunately,
it's midterm time at LSU. Which I am not really looking forward
to. Oh well, what can one college student do? I am eagerly
looking forward to the release of Viewtiful Joe. The more I hear
about the game the more I want it. Also, the new ATI 9600 TX and
9800TX cards have caught my interest, mainly because they will be
released with a copy of Half-Life 2. Speaking of Half-Life 2 some
bastard(s)
hacked into valves servers and stolen the source code to the games
engine. Although, this is terribly bad, I can only hope someone
makes a linux client for the game. Also, check out Knock Around Guys.
It's a very good movie. Well back to studying for me.
Fall is here![ posted October 1st,
2003 ]
Today at 2:30, I will be free from LSU for 4 days. Fall
holliday and all. What sucks though is that I have lab mid-terms
(Mircobiology and orgnaic chemistry)to study for (lab mid-terms are
harder than lecture midterms and tend to be worth 30% of your final
grade). Kind of screwed up on my Mircobio test. But I am going to wait
to see what the curve is before I go and talk to the teacher. Some of
the questions where ambigous as to what he wanted.
Recently, I downloaded and played the Homeworld 2 demo [demo
d/l]. All I have to say is damn the game looks good and plays as
well as the orginal. Speaking of the orginal, Relic has released the source code to
Homeworld. It's just a matter of time beofre someone ports the game to
linux.I will probably go buy Homweworld when I go buy Viewtiful Joe, which also
looks to be very promising, since I heard nothing but good things
aboutthe game. VegaStrike
0.4.1 has been released, it looks real good, but I havent had time
to play it yet, though I do hear good things. Recently, I have been
playing some games that I bought, but never got around to playing. I
have almost finished Star Trek: Elite Forces (the orginal) and Total
Annhilation (Core campain). I have still yet to beat/play: Rune,
Serious Sam2, Star Trek Armada 1&2, Heavy Metal FAKK, Myth 2, Rage
of Mages, GTA: Vice City and many other games. Hehe, I am becoming more
of a collector than a game player. So many games, so little time.
Neal should be here either today or tomorrow, WooHoo.
Oh yea, 2 weeks till my Birthday.... finally 21.
Good things......[ posted September

Well I really havent been up to too much lately... so
I will just break it down like this
1)
School
Ah, the LSU Fall semester is still going and is as boring as
ever. I had a physics test and about 6 quizes. Anyway,
school is going good, but is extremly slow
2)
Iraq?
My friend Neal is coming home from Iraq after being there since
January. WooHoo... it will be a drunk time to town when he gets
back
3)
LSU Football
Went to one of the best football games I have seen
in a while. LSU Tigers vs the Georiga Bullday. Of course
LSU won 17-10.
"Hey, hey Georgia. I want to knoooow if you'd be my bitch"
4)
Linux tinkering
Yes, after a long time, I am tinkering with getting games to work with
wine again. Right now I have gotten both Homeworld and Total
Annhilation to work. Now all I have to do is to get Steam to work
under wine (Steam, the program you have to use to get CS 1.6 and all
other HL mods to work once Valve shuts down the WON.net servers. Oh
yea..... here is a screenshot of Homeworld in Linux.....
Happy Birthday Dad[ posted September
11th, 2003 ]
Well today is my Dad's 51st birthday. Happy Birthday dad!
Also, for New York. Morn for those who died 2 years ago. Celebrate
their life, not their death.
Taken from my post on the MUB topic: Why
do__YOU__use Linux
" Why do I use Linux?
Well, it all started off when I was 16 in my 3rd year of C++
programming in High School. I didnt have enough money to buy MS Visual
C++ 5. I heard that Red Hat had a C/C++ compiler. I tried Red Hat 5.2,
liked it, but my code wasnt compatable with MS Visual C++ (damn you
M$). When I came to LSU a year later (my birthday is in October) I was
taking computer science classes. LSU required that we write standard C
for Sun UNIX machine. This time I bought Mandrake 7.2 and loved every
minute of it. I've been using mandrake and Red Hat ever since. I still
program in my free time, but havent really written any useful programs
outside of classes. Linux does everything I need it to, and I can still
play games. one of my favorite things to do is tinker with stuff. I
find it a challenge to get Win9X games to play in Linux and enjoy
trying to get them to work, to me it is like a game. Another reason why
I use linux is that I work with MS WinXP machines at LSU all the time
(I work for the Office of Computer Services) and I know whats wrong
with them, how much they screw up, and tried of fixing all of their
problems. So when I get home I dont want to deal with that type of
stuff. I would have a Mac G5 (my family has a history of owning Mac's,
my father bought only one Intel Pentium computer). I guess my final
reason is that I enserally oppose DRM, TCAP, and other forms of laws
and legislation. I am holding my own personal boycott to the RIAA (if I
want one of their unusually good CDs, I buy it used), and Windows
(convinced my sister to buy a Mac...she wanted a Dell (because all her
firends have Dells) until she played with the new iMac) who support
legislation like this. I guess the reason why I use linux is because it
does what I want it to do an come hell or high water will I give it up.
What interests me about Linux:
It's a robust programming OS that is very stable and reliable, not to
mention secure.
Why dont I use a different OS:
I cant afford a Mac G5, and I use Windows all day at work. I Absolutly
hate using Windows
What made me start using Windows:
I needed something I could program on without paying out of my ass for
MS Visual C++ "

Well today was Melissa's funneral. It feels like I am losing
my little sister. Not much to really say you know. Death in a family
sucks. The funneral service was nice. JP nearly broke down talking
about his sister. I really hope that they are doing well. I might give
them a call today or tomorrow. Who knows. Good bye my friend, I will
see you on the other side.

I bought myself a NEC Multi-Sync LCD 1565 moniter. I
absolutly love it. It's only the 15" model (roughly equivalent to a 17"
CRT), but the imagae is crystal clear, and doesnt have the typical LCD
dull/matte screen finish. Well my my sister is getting her iMac this
weekend, it's the new 1.0Ghz model witht he 15" screen. I think it will
be great for her. And my parents are getting my old computer with the
22" gateway moniter. they need a newer comuter than their 133 Pentium
(non-MMX) computer.
Computer shopping[ posted September

Well, I convinced my sister into getting an Apple iMac for
her graduation gift. I think that she will be happier with it than a
new DELL computer. There are two things that she needs to buy to go
with it. MS Office XP and an Airport card for the 802.11b wireless web
we have at the house. I am thinking about getting a 15" flat panel
moniter for my old 1Ghz computer (which will soon be turned into a
linux only box). Seeing that BestBuy has a good price on one it should
be a good deal. Also in computer news, my laptop is about to make a
trip to CompUSA to be repaired. Nothing to drastic, but it is almost 2
years old and the screen or the screen's backlight has a short in it,
the computer is running very hot (160 F), the fan sounds like it is
dying.... as well as some various other problems.

It's too early in the morning to really do anything right
now (9:30AM), so I have been just goofing off. I made another
craptacular wallpaper. Also in my spare time I have been working on
a small site upgrade. A preview of it can be seen here. I
forgot to bring my art pad with me so I cold do another comic, but I
forgot to back it before leaving home this morning. Oh well, back to
work.
The Wednesday Blahs..... [ posted
September 3rd, 2003 ]
Sigh, a long ass day. Right now I think my stress
levels are going through the roof. Work, school (it's to early to
be stressed, but alas it is true), and Melissa are all riding heavy on
me. I really dont know what to do. Lately, including this
past weekend, I have been avoiding reality anyway possible. I
really dont want to think about one of my friends possibly dying.
So I've been drowning my worry in games. I finished the Soul
Caliber 2 Weapons Master Mode over the weekend, including the extra
chapters and missions, and have gotten all the weapons, secret
charaters and costumes. Yesterday, I finally finished StarFox
Adventures for the GCN. Today, I finally finished Lost Kingdoms for the
GCN.
While speaking of games, I have designed a card game this is
a cross between Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Dungrons and
Dragons. If I can get the system blanced, it should play
well. What I am planning on doing is gettingthe core of the
gmae working and seeing if I can get some of my 3D modeling friends to
make me some models so it will be a 3D battle feild. I will
probably add something to my projects page.
More stuff in my idol time was spend making this craptacular
wallpaper to remind myself to never buy another RIAA made CD, or if
i must, buy a used one so none of the procceds go to the RIAA
assholes. It's not that I condone stealing music (through lost CD
sales), but I do despise corporate policing of the gernal public by
threat of litigation that the normal person could never fight in civil
court. Hell if I really want music, I will go to MP3.com it's free there.
Bad Weekend [ posted September 2nd,

Ah, a three day weekend, this ought to be fun. I thought
that to myself on the way home from school Friday afternoon. Tonight I
am going to have firend over and barbeque. It's going to be a fun
evening. No. When I got home, I had a message on the answering machine.
It was from my mom. One of my friends, Melissa was in a bad wreck.
Critical, and unstable condition. Melissa is only 2 years younger than
me, and I treat her like my little sister, but she was and still si
hurt badly. She had a collapsed lung, torn colon, various internal
bleeding, and a completety crushed pelvis. But today she is doing
better. She is still not in the most stable condition. Not stable
enough for them to fly her to New Orleans to rebuild her pelvis, but
she is doing good. After 60+ units of blood and numerous surguries,
only her pelvis and collasped lung need to be fixed. Ikt's just now a
matter of getting her prepared fro transport. Good luck babe, I'm
praying for you. That was my 3 day weekend, fun hunh?
