Why are you "Griffon"?

It all started when I was a wee little nestling. Ok, I wasn't that wee. I picked up griffons from fantasy roleplaying and quickly grew fond of them as they combined two of my favorite creatures in the animal kingdom. I found out later that they were more obscure than dragons when it came to collectables and thus a challenge was born! Somewhere along the line, I adopted "Griffon" as my computer handle whenever I needed one online and have been using it ever since. My name is not "Griffon", nor do I have it anywhere in my name. But if I was a porn star, my name might be Griffon. But that's getting off the topic. And I know there's a dog breed and a vulture with that name; they aren't related. Historically, griffons were used as guardian statues for treasure in various ancient cultures.
